Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen are pretty much equal to Yao and T-Mac while Paul Pierce is much better than Steve Francis. Duncan is equal to Yao, T-Mac is much better than Ginobli and Parker is much better than Francis. So I think we are equal to the Spurs in terms of trio power. The Suns I think are the only team that has enough power in their trio to match up with Boston. Garnett is better than Amare, Pierce is better than Marion, Nash is arguably better than Ray Allen but not by much. So with all this I would rank them like this: Boston Phoenix San Antonio(only because they are proven) Houston(only because I dont know how Francis will mesh with Yao and Mac)
Ray Allen use to be very athletic and use to be able to dunk on people. Now hes gone into a Reggie Miller.
I can understand the TMac-Allen comparison but Yao-Garnett...Yao is not even half the player Garnett is.
i haven't read any of this thread, but if you didn't vote for the Rockets then you're disrespecting our heroes. You need to be educated on our heroes history. You are not a true fan. Clutch is the reason we exist.
I love the Rockets but come on people - take off your homer glasses. Garnett >> Yao Pierce <<< McGrady Allen >>>>> Francis C's have a better trio but I wouldn't trade them teams.
The Rockets trio is not on par with the Celtics, Spurs, or Suns. But I think the difference between Yao and Garnett is not to the extent that AMD and ArtV imply it is. Before injury, Yao was one of the leaders in the MVP race, heck even Kevin Garnett said that his MVP was Yao prior to a Minnesota game that took place the first half of the season. That's respect from a former MVP. I think overall Garnett has the upper hand over Yao because of his athleticism, Garnett is 7 ft and moves well for his size which gives him an advantage. However that factor alone shouldn't tip the scales to the extent of someone saying that Yao isn't half the player. That's just ridiculous, but I'm not surprised by who said the exageration because AMD has been on record as saying that he thinks 35 year old Shaq is a better center than a 26 year old Yao. I think it is more like this ... Garnett≥Yao (toss up, Garnett is more agile and health has kept him steady, Yao is less agile and his injuries caused gaps in his periods of dominance) Winner Garnett but Yao is very close. Pierce≤McGrady (toss up, McGrady has more court vision) Winner McGrady Allen >>>Francis (Francis needs to prove he's the comeback kid) Winner Allen
You answer the poll honestly. I love the Rockets more than my girlfriend and I would love to say that we have the best trio in the league, but I don't think that's the case. It doesn't make me less of a Rockets fan, hell I'd rather have the best quintet in the league than a three man team. The posters here are some of the most educated I have seen on the web in regards to the NBA, and DEFINITELY in regards to Rocket hereos. It isn't disrespectful to admit that some of us are unsure about who that reliable third gun is.
I think our trio is rather: Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, and Shane Battier.... It was supposed to be Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, and Bonzi Wells last year... but instead, offensively, its Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, and Rafer Alston I really think Steve Francis has a lot of game still in him he is just reaching his prime, and he can still score in bunches, so he could still be our 3rd scorer...
Yao pre-injury was more dominant than KG ever was. KG is a great stats guy but he's never ever been dominant.
The Rockets have a trio? We don't even know if Francis will be a starter. The Celtics trio has the most talent. But they haven't played together yet. So we don't really know how good they are. The proven best are the Spurs and the Suns.
Garnett is an excellent rebounder and good defender, based on his athleticism and versatility of guarding many positions. BUT, the the overall defense rankings of his teams has always been mediocre to poor. (He's been on decent offensive teams so it must not be too easy to be good on both on offense and defense in the NBA.) I expected better for an 8-time All Defensive Team guy though, especially a big man. I had Garnett better than Yao right NOW, but I needed to look at a reason to knock Garnett down a notch so I'll say they're almost even now. Garnett = Yao Pierce < McGrady Allen << Francis. but can Francis can make it to just 1 "<"
That's funny because your own GM would probably be at the hardest decision ever if we called and offered Yao for Duncan.
