link CHICAGO — R. Kelly will go on trial next month, more than five years after he was charged with child p*rnography. Judge Vincent Gaughan has set a Sept. 17 date for the start of a jury trial, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office. The Chicago Sun-Times reported on its Web site that setting of the date followed a lengthy meeting Wednesday among the judge, the lead prosecutor, the R&B singer and his lawyers. Kelly, who was born Robert Sylvester Kelly, has pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of child p*rnography. He was charged in 2002 and is accused of allegedly engaging in videotaped sex acts with an underage girl. Kelly's attorneys haven't conceded that he is on the tape, saying his likeness may have been computer generated. They have also tried to raise doubts about the identity and age of the girl. The case has been hit with delay after delay. Since being charged, Kelly has had six best-selling albums and three nationwide tours. The 40-year-old singer has said he'll survive his legal tribulations. "I'm going through my own struggle ... and you're either gonna fold or you're going to stand," Kelly told The Associated Press in 2005, "and I believe in standing."

He should go to trial for making that GOD AWFUL song/video about the midget pissing himself in the closet. That is quite possibly the dumbest song in the history of recorded music. I hope he COOKS for that.
If it is really a tape, as in "VCR", than these are the dumbest attorneys in the history of lawyerdom. I hope he gets put in jail.
Why is he only charged with child p*rnography if he had sex with an underage girl? Why is he not charged with statutory rape?

he should have kept this on the "doowwnn low down low" seriously, did you read how many hit albums he's had since this tape came out. r kelly has now been around for 15 years, dude has an incredible catalogue of music rather you like it or not. I personally haven't bought an album since 95 but he's made a lot of music. maybe not the best songwriter, but dude churns out the hits.
That was the prosecutor's choice, I believe. They've taken some flak for it. It could be that they think the p*rnography charge is easier to prove and they don't want to muddy the case with a victim that might not cooperate. I don't really know, though.
