I checked my email yesterday and it said I was overdrawn. But most of the payments said pending, so I quickly went to the bank and deposited enough to cover all that and a little more. Well I wake up today and Ive got an overdraw fee of 140.00. I was confident that I had it all covered and then there was this one charge which my gym said would no longer be deducted from my bank account, so I didnt expect it. Thats what threw me completely off. And now Im sure to get overdrawn fees tomorrow because I didnt deposit enough to cover the overdrawn fee from today WTF!!!! I had the money to cover everything and all of this could have been avoided but ironically enough I didnt deposit it because I didnt want to spend it and since I knew it wasnt in the bank I knew not to use my debit. I actually wanted to save money instead I'm out 140.00 and then some. Son of a b**** gym, now I just feel like canceling it. And never use my f-ing bank again. That S*** is ridiculous.
I know at my bank, if I deposit a check, the funds aren't available until the next day. If I see a charge that says it is pending on my account, going to deposit a check to cover it won't work, because the charges clear before the check does. I've been screwed over a couple times like that. Cash deposits, however, are supposedly available immediately after they are deposited.
I've had experiences like this before- it sucks. I would call the bank and tell them exactly what you just said in the post. They stand to lose a customer, and they will probably work with you. If not, hang up and call again and get a different CSR (this is called the CSR game). Good luck!
yea tell me about it, i was overdrawn $515.50 for a good while, I just deposited 7bills and i have like 180 something left. Sometimes I wish I didn't have that overdraft protection. It doesn't protect me from ****.
That's the way the banks do it. They always post withdrawals before deposits. And they always post the large withdrawals before the small ones so they can charge maximum fees. They're in it to make money. The sad thing is, they probably don't care if you threaten to close your account. Don't take this the wrong way, but if your average balance is such that you get overdraft fees, they probably don't see losing you as any big deal. They only care about the customers with lots of money. It sucks. Just don't give them a reason to even THINK about charging you an overdraft fee. That's your best revenge. Don't let them make any money off of you.
Well, you could try talking to customer service and maybe they can waive some of the fees...That should work, unless you've done this before...
Yea I guess I will try that, it doesn't hurt to try. I'll read my post word for word maybe Ill shed a tear or two. It feels good to have some hope of recovering my money. I have done this before a few years ago when I was 18. But I havent done it in a while. i dont like the fact that this its gone this out of control in a long time. Now time to play the "CSR game"
If you have overdraft protection and you overdraw with "pending" transactions, simply move the money from your savings yourself and save yourself the overdraft transfer fees. My girlfriend found this out from Bank of America yesterday.
My bank makes $100 of a check deposit available immediately. They reserve the right to remove that $100 and charge you applicable overdraft fees if the deposited check bounces. Talk to a CSR. If you have not overdrafted before they may remove your fees. I have done that before.
Most banks will give you one string of overdraws a year. Last month, I transferred too much money out of our joint checking account into our savings. We got an overdraw fee for two items my wife purchased. Called the bank and explained, they took both charges off right then and there.
HOLY S***. I CALLED AND THEY SAID MY 140 WOULD BE REFUNDED TODAY MIDNIGHT. There was no hassle involved. I LOVE YOU GUYS, THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE Sorry for the caps im just too excited And she said that it seemed there were no other fees. If thats true I'm donating to the tip jar first thing tomorrow morning. I want even thinking of calling until I read it here on the board.
make sure you've got enough to cover the tipjar donation... Clutch may demote you to Banking Rookie status.
If I had a bit extra in my bank account, I wouldn't be eating ramen noodles right now. ...And then I wouldn't have a bit extra anymore, and I'd be eating ramen again. I don't take personal offense to your statement, but I think the real question you mean to ask is why we didn't go to college/grad school, invest money diligently, and climb the corporate ladder to financial security as quickly as we could. My answer? Living costs money, but money costs time that could've been spent living.
If $140 was the difference between eating or starving, I'd damn well make sure there's no way in hell I'd overdraw my account
As an aside, I went to my grandmothers funeral which happened to coincide with my court date. I went to pay it online, and it said I owed $527, including a FTA charge of $202. Right before I was about to pay it, I decided to call and see if they could discount the FTA charge due to the funeral. The lady told me my best bet was to go see the annex judge. I went there for an hour. She told me to see the prosecutor. I explained my sitch, and he waived the FTA charge and two of the tickets. (I even told him I was going to court to contest one.) Anyway, I ended up only paying $100. It pays quite a bit to call when you want to try and remove a fee.
