First of all hi guys. I'm back on the forum after holidays. Now what do I think about the KG-trade. Well, when you look at their startin' lineup is something amazin' (for me). You've got 3 superstarts - KG, Allen and Pierce. I just can't belive it happend. But on the other side it doesn't have to be a great fit for Boston, why? They lost Telfair, Jefferson, Rattlif and of course Green. Al Jefferson is a really talented guy, he had a great season last year and Green showed his best. So now Celtics have 3 superstars (and that's great for them) but they have ONLY 3 players and no bench. I know it could kil them (like it killed us in the PO). Minny got 2 great players and Rattlif and Telfair. So that trade was really amazin' and Boston now has a great startin' lineup with no bench...
Francis was a star but I don't think Battier even wants to be a star He is just a smart guy, great temmate, not individual scorer
seriously, we do not have 3 stars on this team. SF3 is a former star himself and MJ is no star. However those twos are important players that we need. I am hoping scola would pan out the way those scouts said he would be, then with him we got 3 superstars in their prime.
I strongly doubt Scola can be our 3rd star. The way the Rockets personnel set up, we have a serious gap between our 2nd and 3rd best playes. Scola, Francis, Battier, James, and Wells are have the capability of being solid starters. But none of them are able to put up big numbers when the top 2 guys on the team are Yao and T-Mac. Ironically, if our depth has been as crappy as it had been recently, Francis, James, Bonzi, and Scola can easily be thought of as our 3rd "star". But with our current depth, the only two players that are guaranteed as many touches as they want are Yao and T-Mac.
First, I don't think many would consider Jason Terry a star. In fact, if you check the Mavs forum, the fans there all want him traded or coming off the bench. Second, I have never seen the spelling of Stoudemire so brutally murdered. Congratulations.
I agree with you. When our main stars are not having a good night all we need is one of those other guys to take his place and I think they can do it.
I don't know if this belongs here or not... A big factor that I am speculating about is how the stats will play out with the Celtics. Garnett has been a top 3 fantasy pick for the last decade and Allen has in the past three years solidified himself into the top ten. Pierce use to be top ten but with injuries, moved himself in the teens. I wonder how thier stats will be impacted. I mean with the Suns, they have Mr. Fantasy basketball in Marion. Nash is also ranked high because of assists and Stoudemire is solid fantasy wise but not stellar (he excels in the easiest areas to get points ppg and rpg). Will the Garnett trade rock the fantasy basketball world? Will guys like Durant and Jefferson sky rocket into the top tier because they are the only options or will their youth and lack of skilled teammates cause them to be targeted harder on defense? Will Francis become a Fantasy player again? In 10 player leagues I've seen Francis on the waivers. How many Rockets players will be Fantasy guys. Yao was a top 15 player pre-injury, Tmac stayed in the 30's in most leagues, and Battier was a surprising top 40 player. Guys like tmac always get picked top 15 tough and as Rocket fans sometimes it is hard to pass up on the hometown stars. So long rant short, how do you guys feel the 3 star formula effects fantasy basketball? -V
Definite effect on fantasy. KG - won't be a top 5 anymore, because his numbers will definitely take a hit, but I'd still pick him up as a top 15 though. here's my lineup. It's a keeper league, and the first couple of years I made a couple of good trades to "bolster" my team. I also got to draft lebron james late in the first round. My fantasy team leagues uses minutes per position, so all 5 positions are used. Thats why if you have flex players (2,3) it benefits you. My top players are Yao AI Lebron James Jason Richardson Manu Ginobili Shawn Marion I just have a bunch of other solids to fill it in. But my guard combo is almost unstoppable.
I think if you had 3 stars in their prime and they were able to SHARE the ball then yes. But it seems the celtics have 3 stars (past or at the end of their prime) and no bench to allow them to rest. This is NO GOOD.
I think they are all still in their prime at least for 2 or 3 more years. Good deal for the Celts and their fans. DD
Quote from Morris Almond about the photoshoot. "I don't know how many re-takes I had to do throughout the day after laughing at Aaron Brooks and Alando Tucker doing little choreographed dances behind my camera guy. So it was a day full of (sometimes awkwardly) fun moments" http://freedarko.blogspot.com/2007/07/fd-embedded-rookie-dispatches.html
There's more than one way to skin a cat. Three stars, defense, depth, best player, and other formulas have been used to explain how to succeed. I do think there are right and wrong ways to build a team, but I don't think the application of this formula for success is very fruitful. Maybe the Celtics will click, maybe they won't. There have been examples of teams loaded with stars not succeeding; and examples of teams with no depth winning it all (like the old Rockets). So, I don't really think the 3-star line-up is required for success in the league. It also brings up a difficult issue of who a star is anyway. Celtics have 3 guys who were the franchise on their former teams, and are now all together. So, they all seem like legit stars. Second-star talent developed within the team gets less respect (unless the team wins a championship or something). How many true stars does Chicago have? It's hard to say because they developed as Bulls. It was the same with the championship Pistons. Before they won, they were characterized as a team with no stars that played well together; after they won, they were seen as a team brimming with borderline-stars at all positions. Likewise, people object to Francis being called Houston's 3rd star because he was not significant in New York last year. But, he was definitely a star in previous years and the franchise of his team every season. Is it circumstance that made him a star, or circumstance that made him stop being a star? If he averages 12 and 5 next year, will he qualify as a third star? If Ray Allen averages 12 and 5, will he qualify?
A matter of opinion on the "prime status" here. So if they are in their prime, they still have lack of bench depth unless they want to go more into the LT threshold. But maybe they will since they have been the TX rangers of basketball.
i object to francis being a star because he cant succeed in an environment where they dont play francis ball.
