I wanna know who exactly ended up being in the trade so I can see if there is a chance for the Rockets to get in on this.
While Morey and Ainge are neck and neck for manager of the year McHale is once again locking up the worst manager of the year.
i dont know if trading more than half your team and 2 first rounders an 2 second rounders for 2 fading allstars make you gm of the year. gms of the year make their teams deep with deals that mostly fly under the radar, not blockbusters. coangelo got it the first time for getting a joe johnson for cheap, steve nash for cheap, barbosa for cheap and Q to a deal that looked reasonable at the time, the team was at least 6 deep. Boston is 3 deep, that's it. He did it again for getting bosh on an extention, garbajosa and parker out of nowhere, trading matt bonner for a servicable nesterovic, and trading for ford with villanueva. That team was 7 or 7 1/2 deep. We have made our team deeper with solid players this year and we are 7-8 deep this year (counting chuck and luther as 1 helps). Morey is gonna win hands down. I think its funny how the boston celtics singlehandedly turned two mediocre teams into the boston celtics of 2006-2007.
I wish I agreed with you but I don't. GM of the year is often (but not always) a GM who turns a franchise around dramatically in a single season. If the Celtics go from winning 26 games to winning 45+ games with KG and Allen, Ainge may very well take home that trophy. It's almost like the most improved player award. I really think that if the Celtics win more than 45 games, the Rockets will have to win 60+ for Morey to stand a chance.
Ainge: Idiot or Genius - if someone ran a pre-draft poll asking if it was reasonable to think Ainge could get both Ray Allen and KG this summer without moving Pierce, even the most homer C fans would go with the "you're nuts" response. You have to take the major gamble to make these things happen. IIRC, Boston still has the MLE to play with to shore up their major holes at center and point. Brevin Knight might come cheap. Evan
Current Celtics depth chart: Rondo/Pruitt* R. Allen/T. Allen Pierce/Scalabrine Garnett/Powe/Wallace* Perkins/Davis* * rookie Relying on a 2nd year player (Rondo, the new "grizzled veteran") and a rookie (Pruitt) to man your PG position is not good. Also, backing up Garnett is a 2nd year player (Powe) and a rookie (Wallace). Once again, not good. Ainge better be working those phones... and fast. I don't think the second unit could even beat a WNBA team.
Although my allegience is with the Houston Rockets, I get League Pass every year because I like to follow players and teams that make changes. Last year my other favorite teams to watch were the GSW because of their reckless abandon and the NY Knicks because of Steve Francis. I know have a favorite Eastern Conference team in the Celtics. Will always cheer against Dallas, Phoenix, Lakers, and Utah no matter who the play against.
I question this move for the Celtics. I mean, for them, it's a move you may have to make considering you've now added a third all-star to the team. But, I'm not convinced the three compliment each other very well. Pierce is a guy that has to dominate the ball to score and Garnett isn't a post/paint scorer. He does most of his scoring facing the basket from middle-distance and out. I actually think Jefferson is a better fit next to Pierce/Allen than Garnett though KG will give them a nice defensive element. Plus, Ainge just mortgaged any and all present and future by trading away half the team plus 2 first-round picks. And, all these moves for guys on the wrong side of 30. I just have a hunch the "big 3" are going to have injury issues the next couple of years leaving them to have to rely on their NBDL team they have still left. I'm happy for Celtic fans as they now have something to be excited about again but I think this move could really backfire in a HUGE way. As for Minny, I thnk getting Jefferson is a good coup. He is developing quickly into a 20/10 player. Green could still become a nice player. Plus, they get 2 1st's to help add pieces around the young core they have.
So they do have their MLE. Then they can address at least some of their problem with depth. Be interesting to see what moves they make. They can't be finished.
I believe they would have to be under the cap for that to be possible (or have a trade exception, which I don't know if they do or don't).
Was he saying McHale is dumb? Why am I not scared of KG-Allen-Pierce Celts? Anybody with me? That KG-Cassel-Spree Minny team won nothing and that was a 4 year younger KG in his prime. 3 washed-up (sorta of) max players on the same team. I am betting Celts not even making east final next year. On the other hand, I think Jefferson and Green could be real speical.
so youd be comfortable going into the season with two shoot first guys at pg (sgs in pgs bodies) and a tiny rookie as the only pgs on this team? i would think the celtics would keep either gomes or green (gomes in particular) ] who exaclty will be on that celtics bench? they absolutely sucked last year and now they are getting rid of some of their best talent on that bench...so why would they be better? doesnt make any sense. also, you forgot that doc is there coach
