Great Page 2 interview with Henry Hill, talking about how f*cked Tim Donaghy really is, saying that he probably needs to go into the witness protection protection program. He's in some serious sh*t.

one day these "news" organizations are gonna look up and have no sports to cover. and they're gonna wonder why. and then someone with some sense will respond, well maybe we shouldn't have been linking the nba to henry hill.

Yeah, it was an interesting article, but I don't see how it's useful to have Henry Hill speculating on what might be happening.

It was just for entertainment really, which is why they put it on Page 2. Goodfellas is one of my favorite movies, so it's funny to see his side of things.

If it wasn't for his B.C. scam it would have been a much less legitimate article. One of the ways to find out what lies ahead is to ask someone who has traveled down that road before.

When I read this, I can't help but wonder if the fix was on in that Namath Super Bowl. It was such a low scoring affair. I'm wondering if the fix was on the over and under since the game was so low scoring.

I thought the links to his ebay finger paintings were a nice touch.

If you're going to fix a game, you do it on some small game that no one knows about. No need to do it in the game with the most attention.

but the bigger game does have the potential for most money. the way these guys get caught is unusual amounts of money bet on games, not suspicious activity.

Agreed. You have large amounts of money coming in on some random game like TSU vs. Prairie View A&M, and red flags start going off.

Love the Marge Gunderson quote, btw. Although I prefer a good Mike Yanagita quote myself.

I thought the way the FBI got onto Donaghy was because they were wiretapping the mob for different reasons and picked up conversation about fixing games. Did I make that up?

That's my impression too. On second thought, they might have picked this up awhile ago and started a separate (although related) investigation on the game fixing alone.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view, I suppose), Henry Hill has gone from a symbol to a punchline. This guy is still trying to remain relevant as a "mobster", even after he turned.

I loved Goodfellas. Thanks for your contributions, Henry. Now go back to Nebraska and push some more dope, or whatever it is you're doing there in the 'witness protection program'.

okay, isnt it odd to find an ex-mobster doing interviews with ESPN?
is the writer of that article , Mike Philbrick a real name or is it a pseudonym, because all I am thinking about is the mafia kidnapping Philbrick and demanding where he got access to Hill...

Maybe he'd be a good candidate for a reality show? That would be ironic - a reality show for a guy in witness protection.

I heard James Gandolfini is next in line for analysis.

Never underestimate the public's fascination w/ the mob. Don't get me wrong, I like a good gangster movie as much as the next. I agree w/ coogz, sounds like this guy is washed up and likes to bring up his mob ties anytime someone asks.
