i wanted to try and clear up one basketball point that ive read here a lot since coach a was hired. people are saying he runs the princeton offense presumably since pete carrill was on his staff in sac and jeff petrie was his gm and played at princeton. but it doesnt even resemble carrill's offense at princeton. at summer league, i heard the assistant coaches talking about their "corner series" was the basis of their offense. still looking for cuts, backdoors etc but have both post men at the elbow areas. in the princeton offense, the center plays at the high post and the offensive alignment is a two guards and two forwards free throw line extended. just wanted everyone to know their is a difference. carrill has a great tape on his offense you can buy off the net.
no but we will miss him terribly...he will run his own team soon enough. the spurs have great power in getting executives jobs throughout the nba
Dennis it sounds like you're a bonafide Insider, whats the current status on rafer?. personally i hope we keep him. split the PG duties between him and james that would give them both 24 minutes a night. start rafer in the 1st 6 minutes and james in the last 6 minutes. i just dont trust James and francis to run the point. francis is best suited to play behind tracy.
skip was a regular last summer at toyota center. no one has seen him this summer. not returning any telephone calls from the coaches or management. morey is super smart...hes not going to give him away. no worries there
The corner series is what they ran for Bibby and peja specificly. The corner series is split and screen where they free the shooter to the corner or they would run the same thing when bibby would bring the ball up the floor and they would run early offense sideline where the screen would bet set as soon as bibby or the point man would cross half court almost blind side which would catch the defender off balance and this would lead to quick early offense. High post offense both 4 and 5 at the elbow high post areas just above the free throw line. This is why luis scola is important because he palyed in europe in a high post offense which calls for the big guy's to be able to read defenses, hit open 15 footers, potentially out the ball on the floor and have the ability to play scree and roll with the guards.Scola and yao would be a dangerous combo from the high post because the defense can't overplay yao because you can run the O through scola on the other side. The offense is has a lot more motion than running the pure princeton form which requires more set screens and more designs. Some princeton principles will be implemented such as the ball moving aspect more than 5 passes, player movment, screen setting aspects but not authentic princeton principles. Adelman is the bill walsh of offense in NBA basketball. He is better than mike dantoni, better than don nelson and jerry sloan.Adleman brought in the open court running basketball to the new millenium. Jason williams was doing what steve nash is doing in 1998. Adleman does what dantoni does and jerry sloans UCLA thing combined. Adelman owns jerry sloan and his little brother dantoni. This new system calls for shooters and passers from 1-5.
Thats why probaly why luther head will stay. he is a great shooter. he will be great off the screen. i can see him playing a combo role like jackson did in sacramento.
i love coach a but he doesnt own sloan or dantoni...it will all play out. coach a will get us as far as our talent allows.
He owns sloan and jerry knows this, just look back at regular season games between sacramento and utah and then look at the playoffs, the kings should have won the same year jordan one his last championship when the kings had utah down 2-1 and vlade misses a free throw that would have won the series and stockton hits the lucky 3. This was a sacramento kings team in their first season together under adelman and jason williams was the rookie point guard. Then shortly after this the kings became the small town NBA model team of the west and the jazz were in delcine ever since. The kings beat utah in 2001-2002 season in the playoffs 3-1 with malone and stockton and then the next season 2002-2003 they beat the jazz again 4-1.Adelman has owned sloan from this time up until now regularly beating his teams in the regular season and putting his teams away quickly in the playoffs. It got so bad jerry trying to beat adelman that he goes after a official because his team was losing. He was suspended 7 games, this is how much adelman owned him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-1vMTVGIAs Now Dantoni and adelman were roomates in the 70's when they both played for the kansas city kings.Dantoni in the beginning measured his career and pattern his style of play off of what adleman was already doing in sacramento.Phoenix even tanked games before the 2006 playoffs because Dantoni didn't want to face the ron artest and bonzi wells two headed monster that playoff year.Dantoni is adelmans' little brother Now the only coaches adelman has trouble with are phil jackson and greg popovich.
I hope Luther can stay, with the star power we have this upcoming year, efficient shooters are what we need at the SG spot..
All Sloan, D'Antoni, Adelman are top tier coaches. I dont think Sloan owns Adelman or Adelman owns Sloan. It's always the better team wins. When the Kings faced the Jazz in early 2000's, it's at the end of career of Stockton and Malonae and then the Jazz were in rebuilding mode. The talent level of the Rockets (even in last year) is better than the Jazz. Under Coach A, I dont think the Jazz is a problem for the Rockets. D'Antoni is still friendly to Adelman. When Adelman was fired by the Kings, D'Antoni talked to the press and gave support to Adelman. D'Antoni said Adelman is an offense genius and he stole some offense sets from Adelman. The Kings with Bonzi and Artest was a special team. They posted up their guards and with their bigs played in perimeter. These Kings did not just present problems for the Suns but also the Spurs. The post-ups of their big guards physically beated down the other team's guards and thus took away the effectiveness of the other team's guards in the closing qtr. And both Bonzi and Artest are tremendous defenders. How Adelman will match up the Rockets with the Suns will be interesting. I am tired to see in previous year the beat-downs of the Rockets by the Suns. It's interesting to see how Adelman use Yao. I dont think Adelman will put Yao in the elbow as often as he did with other centers because Yao is such an effective low-post scorer. So, I am waiting to see what Adelman will do with Yao. Also, Adelman loves pick and pop a lots. I think the best pick and pop duo will be T-Mac and Scola. Scola, as an European player, is mostly good at pick and pop. T-Mac, with his size and talents, will form a formidable pick and pop pair with Scola in the perimeter. As for the PGs, the Adelman's offense with passing and cutting alone will create open shoots. The Kings' 5 starters in 2000s always had 2+ assists no matter what position they play. Ron Artest was able to got 4+ assists under Adelman and Adelman even allowed Artest to bring the ball up court. So any combo guards and shoot first guards will still do a fine job for Adelman as long as they dont try to dominate the ball.
Seems like it’s a foregone conclusion that Skip will be moved. Skip seems to be writing his ticket out of town by not talking to the front office. It's never smart to count yourself out. If management decides to go in a different direction than let them make that call don't make up their minds for them.
It's hard to imagine Steve Francis in the Princeton offense. Or Yao Ming - I don't like the idea of making him into a high-post player. I don't know if Adelman does a pure Princeton offense, which doesn't make sense to me in the NBA unless you have a slow team and you want to slow down the game to buy yourself a chance. Sac-town was a scoring offense. But they did have Carril. Never understood how they could run an offense designed to make the game slower and yet score more points.
