Gomes is an undersized but effective four and Green is a versatile 2/3.

Gomes is more a SF. He played some 4 with the injuries to Perkins and Jefferson. He is not and should not be described as an undersized 4, unless that is where he typically plays. He is primarily a 3 and will be for the Celtics or any other team he plays for. Jefferson and Perkins made up the frontcourt down the stretch.

Why not Rafer and Head straight away for Pierce? Are you kidding me?
Do you really think Boston trades away Green, now they signed Allen? Sorry dude ...

Boston needs a PG. Their only options at the position are Rondo, Gabe Pruitt and Telfair. Rondo is good but still young and developing. Pruitt is a second round pick that's not even a pure point guard to begin with and Telfair is terrible. Then there's Allan Ray who is pretty much the homeless man's version of Luther Head.

Rafer could be the pure PG they need to play alongside Allen, Pierce and Jefferson. He could be their insurance policy while Rondo continues to improve while Head could play some minutes at both guard positions and likely be their top bench player with his shooting.

I don't understand what you think is so unrealistic about it. They nearly cut Telfair towards the end of the season. Green has always been mentioned in trade rumors and Gomes is a FA at the end of the season.

Celts Green may be on trading block

One shouldn't judge too much from summer league, but while Boston Celtics' forward Gerald Green did look better in practice, there's no getting around his 29.8 percent shooting (17-of-57) from the field in five games.

With Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and, the Celtics hope, a healthy Tony Allen ahead of him, Green's name has been raised in a number of trade discussions this offseason. That probably won't change after his work in Las Vegas.

He's 6'7", 250 lbs with both an inside-outside game. Give whatever label to him that you want, just recognize that he has the ability to play both positions.

SF, PF...whatever. If we kept him he would be at worst be a backup SF fighting for minutes with Snyder, Novak and the enigma that is Bonzi Wells. In that scenario, I like Gomes' chances....and if it doesn't work out he's still a decent trading chip with an expiring contract.

This would be a good trade:
One rumor has Mike Bibby coming to Houston, but that makes absolutely no sense. Adelman and Bibby weren't exactly best friends, and the last thing the Rockets need is another attitude-laden point guard. A more likely scenario would be Shareef Abdur-Rahim to Houston with a re-signed James Posey going to Sacramento and Alston going to Miami. Abdur-Rahim won't beef about playing behind Scola and he will give the Rockets additional depth at the four/five. The HEAT would much rather move Posey than Haslem and Posey has already had discussions with the Kings that are said to have gone well.

Alston + Snyder + Butler + Reed + draft rights to Landry
    for
    Foster + Armstrong + Diogu
*Darrell Armstrong $1,219,590 (no salary protection, ie waivable for $0)

Pacers need guard help. They've signed several borderline NBA talent to fill needs there in Greene, Owens, Graham and Rush. Getting someone like Kirk Snyder would be a massive upgrade for them.

It doesn't help that Daniels and Tinsley are always injured. Their money is all tied up they need to improve (especially after trading for Dunleavy and Murphy) but just don't have the flexibilty because of bad contracts.

When healthy Murphy starts over Foster. It makes sense for them to try to redistribute the salary committed to Foster in other positions.

    Tinsley Diener Greene Owens
    Dunleavy Rush Graham
    Granger Daniels Williams
    O'Neal Diogu
    Murphy Foster Harrison

Rafer Alston for Tim Thomas straight up.

Clippers would do this for sure becasue they are desperate for a point guard and they just drafted Al Thornton, who plays both forward positions, just like Tim Thomas.

I've always liked Tim Thomas for our team because of his shooting range. He'll provide the athtleticism and offensive abilities that Chuck Hayes lacks.

I didn't realize Gomes played that much PF. I underestimated how oft-injured the regular frontcourt players were over the last 2 seasons.

Regardless, have you seen the statistics that show his success rate at the position? I see that he tends to lose matchups against PFs at an alarming rate. I will post the reference I used to support that claim once the website is back online. One of the reasons Gomes played so much PF was the constant injuries to the Celtics' frontcourt. He came into the league as a SF and that is where he will ultimately play on a team that has a true PF. He is simply not big enough to play PF. Plus, his skill set make him more useful as a swingman. Ultimately, Gomes is a talented player but he is too small to be a starting PF and too slow to be a starting SF.
