Costco coming to Inner Loop development

    NANCY SARNOFF

Trammell Crow Co. announced today that Costco and an LA Fitness health club will anchor the company's planned mixed-use development on Richmond in the Greenway Plaza area.

The two-story project, which will be called Greenway Commons, will have 256,700 square feet of retail space, including a 164,000-square-foot Costco. The fitness club will occupy 45,000 square feet on the second story.

Trammell Crow Co. is developing the project with The Morgan Group and institutional investors advised by Prudential Real Estate Investors.

The Morgan Group will develop a 526-unit midrise apartment building on the 24-acre site.

Located at the northeast corner of Weslayan and Richmond, the property formerly housed the Houston Independent School District headquarters.

The project will also include a four-level parking garage, an additional 39,000 square feet of retail space and two pad sites.

CDA Architects designed the project, and Miner-Dederick Constructors will build it. Ground breaking will begin immediately on the retail space and the apartments will start in December, the companies said.

    Great...recommendations for fun wineries?

One of my favorite travel days ever was a one-day bike trip through Napa.

(btw, other than Wii Sports, what other Wii games should we get?)

Been to most of them around Austin, here's our favorite day/2-day (depending on your pace & how much other stuff you want to do) trip:

Head out from Austin toward Marble Falls, hit Flat Creek in Lago Vista. Used to be a very small family place: they've recently expanded, still very friendly though. Pretty grounds. Head on to Marble Falls & hit Lost Creek (in Sunrise Beach). Surprisingly good wine last year.

Never been to Texas Hills in Johnson City, my relatives say they're very nice people, though. Never had the wine, either. May be worth a stop, dunno.

Becker outside Stonewall/Fredricksburg is very large & commercial, and the wine is alright, but the grounds are very, very nice.

Avoid at all costs McReynolds in Cypress Mill. Weird, weird place.

There's a few other places around Fredericksburg, can't remember the names & none of them really stand out (at least right now).

I've done a bike tour in Sonoma, and you're right, it's definitely excellent. Did one in Mendoza 2 days ago, uhhh...very different experience to say the least.

Sorry Cohen been at the Lakehouse.

On the way out on 71, in Spicewood, check out Spicewood vinyards, very inexpensive and good wine.

I 2nd the Lost Creek Vinyards recommendation and the fact that they have a bar from Dodge City in the tasting room is really cool.

Also, around Johnson city, there is Rosewood Vinyards, best outside sitting area bar none, and their Three Dog white is pretty good.

Then you have Becker, Fall Creek, and many others........all worth while.

As for Wii games, they are all pretty much MEH.....compared to Wii sports....other than Zelda of course.

No worries DaDakota, it's summer and we've been travelling a bit too. Can't wait to check out the wineries. We might check out Mandola's also since we like the restaurant and it's just down in Dirftwood. We'll prob wait for their new restaurant there to open in August; around the time of the Hill Country harvest wine trail. http://www.texaswinetrail.com/events.html :)

Thanks for the Wii info too. I assume Zelda is too old for a 6 and 3 year old? I just bought Pokeman and even though the kids like it, I was infuriated that after spending $50 I would have to buy some other cr*p so the kids could play gainst each other.

    Crap,

How could I forget Mandolas !!!!

The wine was just average, but the location is FANTASTIC...and it has a great walk around on the inside where you can see the entire wine process.

Also, just around the corner from Mandolas is another one I highly recommend.....Driftwood Vinyards---- the Vista from the tasting room and the outside deck.....AMAZING !!!

And it is less than 15 minutes from our doors in Circle C......

Also my wife and I are looking forward to the Mandolas Sicilian restaraunt opening in August too.

As for WII and kids playing....Mario Party 8 is the best Wii game for kids right now.....and Super Monkey ball is a good one too.

I think the big difference in popularity is Cost Co has like 3 locations
    compared to Sam's 15

Nearest Sams is about 5 minutes away
    Nearest Costco about 20 minutes

So . . beyond being cleaner. . .CostCo is cheaper?

Costco has in store "coupons" automatically applied to items. Sam's just started doing that.
Costco's guarantees and return policies are top notch too. Great quality stuff and great staff.

Sam's is meant for low income households with kids and convenience store owners. Costco is meant for middle to upperclass. Their selection changes a lot but it keeps things fresh.

Costco has overall better stuff no question about it. But Sam’s has the pay and go app where you can scan everything and pay for it from the phone and show the digital receipt to the door guy. You never wait in line. For this reason alone I’ve gone almost exclusively to Sam’s to get all my bulk stuff. I love convenience. I have a free Sam’s membership and literally never used it before this app.

Man I haven’t had one foreverrrrr (health reasons) but once in a while they totally hit the spot. Make sure you get the Polish dog instead of the all beef hot dog. I like mine with everything. Sauerkraut (Only time I’ve ever had it), onions, relish, ketchup and little bit of mustard. Best deal in town for over 30 years. A big ass hot dog and drink with free refills for only a $1.50. Damn now I’m craving one. The chicken bake is pretty awesome too.
