could it be true?....very nice music to mellow out with. I play the new CD before bed sometimes to drift off to neverneverland. Really nice. Who are the contenders?

Sade - Man, you cannot get any more mellow by popping in all six of her CDs and just closing your eyes and letting Ms. Adu carry you away in her voice.....

Jethro Tull, also has many "mellow out" songs. That flute is hypnotic.

To answer your question, no.

My personal favorites:

Pink Floyd

Brian Eno

From my perspective, yes. I don't have any CD's or anything by her but the 4 songs I do have are perfect "mellow out" music. Especially love Orinoco Flow and Only Time.

I agree. Very mellow, mystical quality to her music. Not to bash Floyd, but I couldn't sleep listening to them....they're just too good.

It depends on how mellow you want. Enya is very good and I would recommend getting her greatest hits album, "Paint the Sky with Stars". However, if it's ambient, chill-out music you want, you can't do any wrong with Chill Out by the KLF or The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld by the Orb.

Great mellow albums of mine include the following:

No Angel - Dido
Protection - Massive Attack
Blue Lines - Massive Attack
The Screen Behind the Mirror - Enigma
Enigma 3 - Enigma
Semantic Spaces - Delerium
A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular - Hooverphonic
Maxinquaye - Tricky
Moon Safari - Air
Sunday 8pm - Faithless
Play - Moby
Fumbling Towards Ectasy - Sarah McLachlan

These are all great but the greatest of them all is Karma by Delerium. Unbelievable album with great guest female vocalists including McLachlan (on the song Silence) all backed by interesting samples with a new age/techno flair to it.

If you want mellow, a lot of Trance music artists would be good, but Enya's music always annoyed me because I could never figure out what the hell she was saying... :)

I like :

Sade
Anita Baker
Enigma (Can't believe no one's mentioned them!)
Delirium (so so...)
Sarah McLachlan
Clannad (if you like the Enya/McLachlan stuff, you may like this)
Deep Forest
Moodswings

Somebody mentioned Brian Eno. I've listened to some of his stuff, but I'm not knowledgable about him. Is the music that mellow? I just remember it being really electronic/spacey which, come to think of it, could be mellow, too... hehe.

Manny, here I was thinking you were some 40 year old dweeb. I like your taste in music. I need to check out the Dido album and I love The Orb (good suggestion) and the KLF/Ancients of Moo/Time Lords/or whatever they're calling themselves nowadays...hehe.

I've gotta go with Greg Howard. I can't listen to him in the car or else I get distracted by the music and then I fall asleep . . . "Stick Figures" is great for just sitting down and relaxing . . . mellowing out to the Chapman Stick.

you mellow out to 'bodyrock' and 'machette' off that cd?

I don't see how you can classify Moby as mellow

Listen to Natural Blues, Run On, My Weakness, The Sky is Broken, Rushing, and Porcelain.

Yes, you are right about Bodyrock and Machete (which are excellent tracks), but there are more mellow, ambient pieces on that CD, IMO, compared to fast, big-beat, techno-like tracks.
