I will be down under for a few days and was wondering where I should go and what I should do while I'm down there. I will spend 4 days in Melbourne and and 3 days in Sydney. I don't want to do the normal tourist stuff besides the bridge climb. I want to eat where the locals eat and drink where the locals drink. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Whats r****ded is that I have to fly to Singapore in between Melbourne and Sydney and go back there after. I'm going to be living on a pane for a few weeks.

If you are planning on doing the bridge climb, reserve a spot in advance. We waited too long and were unable to do it a couple of years ago.

See an AFL game in Melbourne. If you can find someone to help you with the rules you will love the game and how physical it is

When are you in Melbourne rockbox? There are a couple of good AFL games over the next few weeks at the Dome. Besides that, you can check out the beers.

IMO, seeing any live sporting event is a waste of time with only a few days to visit.

Anyway, AFL guys are p*****s as evidenced in the video below :D

I love it. Right now I am at curtin university.... classes start next monday I guess.

I went to the freo-kangaroos game a couple of weekends ago and we had great seats! Third row right behind the posts... and they were pretty affordable too. It was a devastating last second loss but I will still cheer for freo for the rest of my time here (I was going to say root but I have found out that that has a bit of a double meaning here). Where are you from? Perth is a cool city and I enjoyed my time in fremantle. We also went to yanchep to see the traditional kangaroo koala bear combos and we went surfing not far away from there. The public transportation here is so cheap and affordable... I almost cant believe it. Everything seems a bit more expensive here (especially food... not many cheap fast food options in perth).

Glad to see you are enjoying it, I live in Atwell which is about 15 minutes out of Perth but am in Perth every day doing a course for the next 6 months or so. Glad Freo picked up another supporter, was a heart breaking loss against the Roos and cost the coach his job in the end unfortunately. HUGE game coming up this sat between Freo & Geelong, should be a ripper.

If you get a chance try and head down south especially to the wineries in Margaret River, you can't beat it. Perth normally isn't this wet either, its been wild the last week or so.

sorry rockbox, only just saw your thread

definitely while in Melbourne try to check out a game a of Aussie Rules Football Live, particularly if you can get a game at the Telstra Dome, which has a retractable roof and not a bad seat in house, plus right in the city so nice and close to food and bars for pre and post game merriment, if not the Dome then see a game at the MCG which is massive

my dads family is all from Melbourne so haven't to think for the tourist attractions, i personally love the Art Gallery and the Zoo but that's just me, there is also some really good aerosol art down many of the smaller streets in the middle of the city, you could also try the mamoth Crown Casino, mornington peninsular if nice and scenic and has pretty good wines, or ride the trams, or visit the Vic Markets, as for food Lygon st is nice for pizza and pasta and you can't get a bad meal in chinatown, but I'd probably say head down to St Kilda beach, which is a tad more alternative, they have plenty of great food, including breakfasts and have weekend markets and at night some venues to see some aussies bands

as for sydney not a massive fan, do the main things like opera house, harbour bridge, ride the manly ferry, really good seafood restaurants in that area and also some good one's around Circular Quay, if it was me i head out of town to check out the Blue Mountains and also the Hunter Valley which has awesome wines

or you could just come to Adelaide and visit Smeg

    hope this helps

    Smeeeeeeeee
