I come here a lot. At least, my verision of a lot. If not every day then every other day I will pop in and maybe comment, maybe not. Maybe post a new topic, probably not. I feel like I've got a decent bead on this bbs. For a long while I NEVER commented. I'd just read, giggle maybe. Smirk maybe. But not comment. Lately, I have been reading a lot more, and commenting a lot more. In doing so I realized this: There are people in this bbs community that post a butt load of comments. It is incredible. This forum is truly the realization of guys years and years ago in their vision of the internet's convergence with social norms and providing a medium for communication, education, and information. Clutchcity's BBS is an actual virtual (oxymoron) hangout. It is an authentic community with all of the traits of a non-virtual community. It has a social hierarchy. It has cliques. It has visitors (people that pop in for a day, a week, a month, but not become 'one' with the community). I am awestruck.

I would like for some of you, newbies and especially old timers, to comment on your history within this site, how you found it, why you frequent it, how it fits into your daily/weekly schedule. I promise I will read every word that is posted in this thread and I swear it is for no other reason than I want to know.

It is bad to say the word "clique". Although it may be amusing.

There is a pool of intelligence and talent here that has yet to be even understood, much less tapped. That is my personal opinion.

Moved for college during the Series against NY. I had to watch game 7 in the comunity hall area of my dorm. All my friends were partying on Richmond. Talk about a buzz kill. The great part was catching game one in Orlando the next year. Pull out your Double Clutch tapes and check out Hakeem, arm on the shoulder of the Magic player he is "boxing" out for the game winner. The never ending taunting of my friends from Orlando was great. It all worked out in the end.

Not having access to good Rockets info, I started checking the net. First site I found was The Launch Pad. Pretty cool site. Good stats roundup. I found another called Clutch City. Between the 2, I was getting pretty good info. I would cruise to the Pad to get some stats, then to CC for comentary.

After time, it was obvious where to go for the info I needed. The visits to the Pad became less frequent. Soon the Pad was gone. Chris moved over here and CC picked up steam. Since then it has been all CC.

I remember sending money to Clutch to keep the site alive. No more CC, damed the thought. I remember the horror of knowing Clutch lived in Utah. I was fooled by the April fools jokes, twice. Taken off the top 50 list? My friend and I had a good bar argument over that one. Only to find out days later I had been duped. Finally a real job, back to Texas, and children came for Clutch. So much over the years, they start to blend together.

Best fan site on the web ever. Period.

You weren't referring to me about the buttload of comments, were you Chance?? j/k - I know that I post a lot, but I really never thought I would post this much when I first started.

Yes, this is the best fans site and, IMO, the best website out there. I would love to meet Clutch in person and tell him what a terrific job he does.

Here's more of my story of how I came here:

rockHEAD is my friend and he turned me on to this sight.

I know I never have anything worthwhile to say, but I like it here. In this virtual community, I am seated in the corner of a dark smokie lounge, drinking a cold beer, watching everyone, talking nonsense to myself, and laughing.:D

Yes, the best BBS sight, I can find!
Thanks Clutch, see ya at the final game again!:D

I think my first visit to Clutch City came when I was in law school and I was trying to get info on the pursuit of a free agent...Shandon, I think. Eventually I started nosing around the rooms here. I'm pretty busy but usually find time to pop in a couple of times a week.

I think I first became aware of clutchcity.net back during the arena campaign. maybe I read about saveourrockets.com on the internet chronicle, and I started frequenting that site trying to do my part to keep the rockets where they belong.

eventually, I think I kept seeing the clutchcity.net icon on the other site, and I finally wandered over here this past summer.

because I'm not a moron, I quickly figured out this was the only rockets site I'd ever need to visit again.

during the Hakeem saga, I got very, very addicted to the site. I teach so I had too much time on my hands this summer. I would visit the site for hours and hours, hoping to hear good news.

I got burned out and stayed away for awhile. actually, now that I think of it, it was the Texas-ou game that brought me back. for some odd reason, in the midst of some massive doldrums that evening after the loss, I stumbled 'into' the bbs hangout. I was very pleasantly surprised to find many other similarly dejected/angry Longhorns fans ready, willing and able to discuss something I in the mood to discuss.

since then, my visits to the hangout have been more regular.

I love how the web and bulletin boards like this one subtly encourage all of us to become better at expressing ourselves through writing. I should make coming to the clutchcity.net bbs hangout a mandatory assignment for my high school English classes!

"now, class, notice how Q8 rocket desperately wants to make a point, yet lacks a firm enough handle on the English language to coherently do so. . ."

in the end, like Cheers and everybody knowing your name, it's just a kick to go somewhere where you can share one of your manias with so many others.

    LONG LIVE THE HOUSTON ROCKETS!!
    LONG LIVE RUDY TOMJANOVICH!!
    COME BACK DREAM!!

there are a lot of funny people here, people with an extraordinary range of gifts. doctors, lawyers, philosophy students, teachers, etc.

and this wide range of ethnicities, backgrounds, professions has in common maybe one thing: love of the Houston Rockets.

this "community" lacks in one area, however. not enough girls.

    except for shanna. ;)

I found Clutchcity back when I first got the net in 98. I used to check out several rockets fan sites, but it didn't take long for me to realize this was the best one. I started visiting the BBS, but I didn't register for a while because I didn't think I really had much to say.
This is the first site I check out every time I get on the net, and I check the BBS at least once a day.
