Back to share some pics from a trip to Egypt a few weeks back. Covered Cairo, and the more well known Pharoahnic areas within Egypt. Thanks ... hope you guys enjoy. Feel free to share. Egypt - June 2007 Some of my fave shots: Thanks again
very sweet pictures. one the places i would most like to visit in my life. can i ask where is the first one taken???
The first one on the site or the first one posted here? If on the site ... that's the entrance to the Nile Dinner Cruise in Cairo If the one posted here ... that's the Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel Thanks all!
I plan on going to Egypt in October with a few friends. We haven' decided yet what we're going to do and we're there only a few days (3-4). What are the places to go in such a smal period? Cairo? Luxor? Thanks in advance.
3-4 days is just about enough to cover Cairo and Alexandria (day trip). Luxor, by train an overnighter, but much faster by air (DUH!) can also be covered in a day, but then you don't leave urself enuff time to enjoy Cairo fully. There's quite a bit to see, and the museum is a must. There's the pyramids and then about a 30-minute drive from there is Sakkara and Memphis. The Nile Dinner Cruise is very enjoyable, and even moreso in the time you're planning to be there. If you need to know more, let me know.
Ok thanks. Bought a guide of Egypt and will study it closely. I'll let you know if I have more questions.
did you take a cruise to luxor from down south (where you went to abu simbel)? egypt rocks as far as monuments... would love to hear your thoughts on dealing with the locals, cities, etc. i found it to be extremely hard as an independent traveler. nice pics.
I went to Egypt when I was about 14 with the family. We were on a tour, too. But even then, the locals were overbearing. But it is an interesting experience in itself, dealing with them. As far as monuments and things to see, Egypt is freaking amazing.
rockit, you are awesome. I keep telling myself I have to go to Egypt soon, but never do. Arrggg. Thanks for sharing!
I was in Sharm-el-Sheikh a couple of years ago. My girlfriend and I walked by the Hotel Mövenpick (I think) a few times. A few months later, they blew up a bomb there.
You have a better chance of something happening to you in Cairo, Texas. I had never felt unsafe in 4 years of traveling back and forth and I would often just explore the streets and back alleys. Now, if you travel to a small town/village in the remote desert, there may be a problem with the occasional hoodlum. Similar to a foreigner traveling to the wrong small town in say, Alabama. In all, fun place. Here's a bit of advice you probably don't usually hear but go to the Cairo Zoo. Not the most appealing place to the eye but lots of cool animals -- after all they are on the African continent. When you are there, find the handlers and give them a few dollars and they will give you the back lot tour. Very Cool. I use to visit a baby lion which I first held when it was one month old (now it would like to eat me). Basically, it is a hands-on experience. Be prepared to get dirty if you do it -- baby animals tend to just piss where and when they need to. Handling the chimps was also very cool. Also, try the more local food establishments. The hotels and tourist areas are really good but you can get just as good or better on the street for about a tenth of the price. Also, do the Marriott for dinner on the patio at night.
