#5 wouldn't make it into the starting lineup, all places are filled.

    #0 Aaron Brooks
    #1 Tracy McGrady
    #2 Luther Head
    #3 Steve Francis
    #4 Luis Scola

    :D

Actually Head is #2. and #5 is not taken. Maybe the next power forward on the team would be #5.

With all this numerology I thought SF3's number just stood for "third option."

    However, a starting lineup of:

    Brooks +0
    Bonzi + 6
    McGrady + 1
    Scola + 4
    = Yao 11

going back to the actual reason for this thread. i think i remember reading that whenever a new player joins the team and their number preference isnt available because another player wears it they may go to the player and request it. Most of the time if the player wearing the number can either sell it or just give it to them depending on how they feel about it. In NY marbury did not give up the number because he too wore and was associated with the #3 on all of his nba teams (except possibly NJ where i think maybe 3 was retired in petrovic for some reason i remember him wearing 33 there)

latest instance I remember a player giving up his number is Brian Cook who wore #7 on the lakers until odom was traded to LA. Odom was able to get back #7 (i am not positive but i think at the press conference lamar had a jersey with a different number other than 7 on it) and cook now was 43 (4+3) as a result.

I am sure Bobby gave up #3 to steve even though I think 3 was the only number Bobby wore his entire career. Sura has not played a single game the entire past two seasons and probably will not this year so it would be downright stubborn and maverick of him to not give #3 back to the player that was the face of the team less than a decade ago. I bet Francis gave sura a small token of payment as appreciation who knows. I am glad he got #3 back, any other number on him just doesnt look right, heck he just didnt look right either in a NY or orlando jersey.

    GOD I'M GLAD HE'S HOME!

mcgrady was is number 1, and only here once=1
francis was number 3, now number 3 again=33
    alston+battier, 1+2+3+1=7

the rockets without yao ming are 1337!! which means we should trade yao for gilbert arenas and thus complete our leetness.

I heard that the first play they run requires Francis to go back and to the left...back and to the left...

Was there anything about Mike James and the #13 jersey from Snyder? Did MJ pick the #7 by himself?

Was expecting to here about this when the trade was done but nothing.
