Yeah Novak can drain the three in practice, but if you watched last season he rarely made a three when JVG put him out there. In fact, he hit his wide open three's at a .333% clip. Plus the fact that Novak struggled in summer league until he hit those 3 3's in a row. I dont know about you but i'm not gonna put my hopes on a 1 year player that hasnt proved ANYTHING in the leauge as of yet. While Luther has.
Thats what I'm talking about, Even though Head cant play the PG position still Rick Aldeman will make him a better player he was than last year under the JVG. He WILL thrived under ALdeman and will become a freaking Offensive threat when Tmac and Yao is double team with the additions of Fransis, James and Bonzi they will not even look to guard Head. SO HEAD AINT GOING NO WHERE! Why? Because I SAID SO!
head's only attribute is spot up shooting. he cant create his own shot, he cant dribble, and he sure as hell cant pass. did yall forget how he looked like a headless chicken whenever he had the ball? he would not work in adelman's system. he just has too many weaknesses. plus aaron brooks can shoot just as well as head and he can do so much more. we dont need head anymore.
If we keep Head, that means we take 4 PGs into the regular season, assuming Rafer is gone. I just dont see that happening. I think Brooks makes Head expendable.
I still see him as a shooting guard. I always have, and with this current team, I see him getting ~15 minutes at sg spot.
He is a shooting guard and always will be. I'd love to see him get 15 minutes a game, that's plenty of time to knock down three or four three-pointers. Who wouldn't want that?
15 minutes seems like wasting Luther Head. But maybe it's a good insurance policy in case James/Francis doesn't work out. Also, how many SG minutes will there be with TMac, Battier, Bonzi, and maybe Snyder getting minutes there?
Luther was praised for having a great work ethic and fairly good defense at the college level. He was never a lockdown defender, but he played good overall D. He still has the great work ethic and he has the tools to become a good defender at the NBA level. You cannot possibly say he doesn't. Derek Fisher has always been praised for clutch outside shooting and stellar defense. What's to say Luther Head can't become a Derek Fisher type player? Fisher played some pretty good defense on Tracy McGrady, and by the way, Derek Fisher is only 6'1''. Luther Head is 6'3''. Luther Head - 27.6 MPG, 10.9 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 2.4 APG, 0.9 SPG, 1.71 TO, 43.7% FG, 79.0% FT, 44.1% 3P Derek Fisher - 27.9 MPG, 10.1 PPG, 1.8 RPG, 3.3 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.46 TO 38.2% FG, 85.3% FT, 30.8% 3P Arguments against Head have been that he can't play defense, can't handle the ball, and turns the ball over too much. He averages about a steal a game, which is great off the bench and with his excellent work ethic, Luther will be a good defender in this league, without a doubt. Luther CAN create his own shots and he CAN drive. He did it in college, he did it in the NBA. To say that Van Gundy limited his role on the team to a spot up three shooter is an understatement. Think about it. What players weren't delegated to spot up 3P shooting roles? McGrady and Alston (Because he felt like it). Luther has good ball handling ability, but his decision-making needs work. That will come to him with experience, expect good things from Head this season. Think about it, the guy has always played SG. At Illinois who manned the point? Deron Williams and Dee Brown. Luther has always played SG so he hasn't had the same kind of development a PG has. Luther is a valuable asset, and he does have upside. I wouldn't be surprised to see him really shine this season.
