In my Organizational Behavior class, we have been assigned to watch one of 3 movies to see how different cultures can clash. The three movies we can choose from are the following: The Last Samurai Memoirs of a Geisha Gung Ho I have not seen any of these movies so I am going to make a poll and let the BBSers decide which I should watch. Thanks.
ive never seen geisha so i would pick that. i went to see samurai at the theatre drunk so i dont remember much of that one.
I thought Memoirs of Geisha was a chick flick? Haven't seen it, but that is what I thought. Last Samurai is good. I really liked the Japanese countryside scenery in that movie.
geisha is a love story movie samurai is...well samurai's! Id go with samurai even though Tom Cruise is a Scientologist.
I gotta say, if you have to watch one of those movies as a pursuit of any education, then that education isn't worth pursuing. Watch anyone of those, then write the paper about how the western civilization have no idea of the true eastern civilization and that the assignment is dumb because you can't learn cultural clashing from those cinematic depictions. If any thing, it'll make your paper stand out
I agree. Better yet, write about the culture clash on this BBS with mainland China YOF's and American born YOF's.
Gung Ho should not be last place. Geisha has Chinese people as the leads, and isn't good anyway. Last Samurai does have some great pictures, and I thought it was OK, but it is just so hard to stomach Tom Cruise. Hung Ho was funny, and oddly enough would seem to have the most material based on what the class is about, and would be the easiest to write a paper about.
then I would say Gung Ho. It sucked the least out of three. Samurai was a rather pathetic movie with a plot something like a White(caucasian) knight in shining armor saving an Asian damsel in distress. white memoirs of a geisha was a sad attempt to adapt the book, and they should have spent some of the production money on hiring English tutors for those pathetic actresses.
