if there are a 100 possessions in a nba game on average, and yao plays 80 of those possessions...how many possessions do you think yao will be at the elbow or at the high post? im saying 20 of 80 or about every 4th possession

Hard to answer this, because he could start a possession at the high post, pass out to a wing, take advantage of a screen set for him by another player and then slip into the low post.

I think Yao will be moving more often this year, but I believe that ulitimatly the goal will be to free him up either going towards the low post and receiving the ball on a cut, or getting him deep position on a switch for the entry pass from the wing.

I think Yao will get 80% or more of his points from inside 5 feet, but I believe that Adelman will have him moving more....

I think the thread title should be changed to, "How often will Yao play the high post?"

I think he will be in the high post more as the season progresses and his passing skills become sharp again. Yao hasn't been ask to feed a guy cutting to the goal in a long time. I think it's safe to say his passing skills could be a little rusty to start the season.

I think it will depend on who is on the floor with him. I think your 20/80 is probably a fair comparison.

I was saying to Clutch the other day at the Francis press conference that I was glad the team pushed Yao to play the low post from day 1. If he had come up in a system where he mans the high post most of the time, he would've never become the player he is today. BUT, by putting him there at times NOW, you can exploit his passing skills and still allow him to dominate in the low post. It's the best of both worlds.

Adelman will change the offense to force the opposing team react on defense.

It will be adjusted on the fly, every game. It could be 80/20 one game and bet 40/60 the next.

Since everyone seems to think this thread is a waste of space, I'll just hijack it and put forth a more interesting question to everyone:

If the Rockets played 100 possessions, on average, how should those possessions be undistributed among the roster?

*I say on average b/c some teams are going to focus on Yao more, some will focus on T-Mac more, and some will focus on our other players so thats understood knowledge*

Let's remember that we have 5 players (Yao, Mac, Bonzi, SF3, and Mike James) that have posted seasons with double digit points and as it appears, Brooks is also very qualified to do the same.

This question isn't as lame as some of you guys are making it out to be... the answer may reflect one of the biggest changes on offense and offensive philosophy this team will make this season. It also may answer the question "why fix what ain't broke?" Yao, when healthy, was a 25-28/9-11 guy playing the low block. Will this team be better, and will Yao be used better by playing more high post where he ends up being more of a facilitator of the offense than the culmination of the play? What will happen to Yao's rebounds and point totals if he's playing a larger portion of his time away from the basket? What does it do for TMac's game? Does it create more mismatch problems in our favor at the expense of Yao's stats?
