Do we still have enough money to sign Chuck Hayes?

That's in reference of a trade for a Juan Carlos Navarro and an albatross contract.

Anybody would be reluctant to offer Haslem for Navarro and Haywood/Thomas/Daniels, if they get can get players under a decent contract like Head and Alston.

Morey will not lose Chuck for nothing. He sees Chuck as an asset. He'll sign him to the contract, then figure out what to do with all of the pieces later on.

I don't know if Indiana is still an option now that they have signed Diener.

The time to worry is slowly creeping up on him!

You're right - he won't just ditch an asset - but you've got to do something with the 'assests' sooner or later, or get stuck with them all!

There's a bunch of players who look out of place atm: Sura, Alston, Hayes, Novak, Harris, Tsakalidis (I assume we'll just renounce his rights), Reed, Snyder, Butler
for the purpose of this post I'm assuming Head will stick on the roster as 3/4th string PG - you can always use a player who shoots 40% from 3 point land

They've all got to squeeze into a couple of roster spots somehow, which basically means we have to ditch some of them! Alston and Sura are probably easyish to trade for a pick - Reed, Snyder, Harris not so easy

Anyway - back to the main point of this thread - I'm all for re-signing Hayes AFTER we've exhausted our options on trying to trade multiples of the aforementioned players for some sort of PF.

What is "some sort of PF"?

Haslem? Good player, but is he that much of an upgrade over Chuck to be worth paying the extra salary on him? That's what Morey would be asking. How much is Chuck Hayes with a 15 foot jumper worth when you can have Chuck Hayes for a couple million bucks?

Who else is out there, realistically attainable, that is more effective than Chuck and makes a salary that makes sense?

I see them trading a few small guards (Rafer, Head, Lucas, even James could go if someone wants him specifically), but the need I think they are seeing is replacement for Dikembe (if he doesnt' come back... he's weighing options), rather than adding to the Scola/Chuck/Landry mix at PF.

Another thing is that DM will likely be patient... trying to see whether he can get a real steal (Scola-type transaction) from some team that's panicking at some situation before settling on a more realistic options (like Joe Smith as a backup plan).

Training camp isn't until October, plenty of time to weigh the options.

    Why not?
The Heat needs backup PG, and we can give them Rafer. They have been shopping Haslem anyway, seems like a fair trade.

Haslem and Scola make us real deep at power forward. If we get Haslem for Alston and change, we are looking at a great season next year. Those two could easily combine for 22 and 15 production from the 4 spot.

Lookout league, Morey is a man on a mission!

They're just as thin at the 3 & 4 especially now Walker is the default starting SF.

I'm serious. Why hasn't any other team tried to sign him. Who needs vastly undersized power forwards anyway. He's a total zero on offense and his lack os size and quickness makes him usless against good power forwards. He can't guard Dirk or Elton or Boozer. Now I know what your thinking. Everyone has trouble guarding those guys which is true but at least some other guys bring some amout of offense to the game. Chuck can't pass and i've seen him miss a few layups in his day.

I've never liked him as a player. Never. I don't like one dimensional plays who are a liability on offense. I tend to err in favor of guys who can score. I think he's a holdover from the Van Gundy days. You know a guy sucks when people who like him talk about how much he hustles. That's a dead give away. Guys with much more talent hustle all the time they just aren't given credit for it.

    1. Restricted Free Agency. Rockets say they'll match any contract offer (barring a truly crazy one, I suppose). These tend to chill offers real quick. Same thing is happening to Anderson Varejao now. Same thing happened to Reggie Evans, Vlad Rad, etc.

    2. He didn't have trouble guarding these guys. Chuck was the best post defender on the team.

Throw in the rights to Landry or add Snyder with Rafer or both. Or give them Novak as a project.

rafer would back up williams. so they'd still be trading away a starter for backups and scrubs.

What other team would want him? He's a fan favorite here, kind of like a pet Labrador because he will go fetch the ball and sit until needed. :D
