You have no idea what you are talking about.

Francis ratio of free throw attempts to field goal attempts is 0.42.
    Rafer's ratio is 0.20.
TMac's ratio by comparison is 0.35.

That lone makes you sound like you don't know anything about Francis. Alston shooting free throws at even a perfect clip means nothing because he never goes to the line.

Francis shoots a lot better inside the arc than Rafer and with the open looks created by out superstars probably the same from the 3 point line. He also wouldn't shoot a massive amount of 3s because his offense is not one dimensional.

This is all you need to know about their comparative offensive abilities.

Francis' career points per shot is 1.27.
Alston's career points per shot is 1.07, which is absolutely pathetic.

Oh and about turnovers. Rafer's constant 3 point jacking caused many long rebounds and many fast breaks for other teams. Some turnovers don't show up on paper.

    To summarize......

All this bashing on rafer is un asked for. I know we as fans tend to overreact. Hence many of us were extremely pissed off at rafer's performance against the jazz. I was yelling at the TV when rafer was bricking his shot as well. But his good qualities mentioned in this post makes him deserved to be treated with respect. Morey knows what rafer brings to the table is not something that james nor francis can do. Besides, with the potential problem with francis's knee, its safe to say that Morey won't force a trade with rafer. We will trade him only if we can get something good in return (i.e. jeff foster, haslem).

Mark my words, if we go into the season without a skilled pass first PG, all of our old and new shooting talent will go to waste.

Odd. I would expect expect Alston to end up in jail before Francis. 30 Million can pay for some good attorneys.

Rafer as a man seems to be a great guy, a very likable character.

Rafer as a professional PG is one of the worst in the NBA.

I can't believe that people value him bringing the ball up, and being able to limit turnovers.

Of course his turnovers were limited, TMAC was initiating the offense, Rafer was a spot shooter.

If being able to dribble and not turn it over was such a valuable skill Rick Brunson would have had a better career, or Kevin Olie, or.....well, you get the idea.....

We need players that can attack the basket, draw contact, and finish at the rim or set up teamates.

    Rafer is not it.

It's because of JVG. Half the fans are completely obsessed with JVG ball, or what is termed "ugly ball" by all other fans. Alston isn't even half the player Spanoulis is, and JVG convinced most Rockets fans that Alston was a decent point guard and that Spanoulis was the worst Euro to NBA player ever.

It simply is obvious reading the forum that half the fans are completely sold on Gundy ball, which is a system that would have never gotten the team past the first round in the west.

Thank god Adelman and Morey have taken over. It will take the "really knowledgeable fans" aka the Gundy fans time to recover but eventually they will see the light. They consider themselves the ones that "actually know the game," anyway they won't ever admit they were wrong but will say instead, "Yeah, but if Van Gundy had these players he would have done it too (gotten past the first round)."

Never even admitting that they were against these types of players (Adelman players) in the first place.

If this is true, then why did Rafer have a higher assist rate than McGrady last year? It's not even close (25.9 vs 19.4), and for Rafer 25.9 is a career low, while for McGrady 19.4 is a career high.

If you love Adelman so much, then how do you explain that he completely dissed your god Spanoulis by adding Brooks and M. James, and then dumped him? Clearly Adelman doesn't think much of your god either, otherwise he wouldn't have authorized the move to bring in James and drafted Brooks.

We were lucky the Spurs were stuck in luxury tax hell, and that Scola was about to sign a 5 year contract with Tau before he was traded, which would have made his value exactly zero.

Dawg, Kobe was back and forth between LA and Colorado

GP wanted to run because he said he wasn't a spot up shooter (sound familiar)

Shaq was the man on that team

Malone was solid until he got unjured.

In the finals Kobe screwed the entire team takeing 35% of the teams shots at 33 fg%, which is something Rafer has done on this team many times.

Not all his fault because assistant coach allowed it to happen and ultimately it cost him his job. Rafer has proved to be able to be less effective than BOTH James and Francis have been for this team.

Your becoming a lost case. If you think Rafer was the guy creating shots for this team you are insane.

It's not even the same level.

I was responding to a guy that said all Alston did was walk across halfcourt and hand it to McGrady. If he did that.... then he did it while assisting others at a significantly higher rate than McGrady, while McGrady was doing it at a career-high rate and Alston was doing it at a career-low rate.

Keeping that in mind, was Rafer really walking across half-court and handing it to McGrady? I never said Rafer primarily created the offense, I'm saying that he's getting more credit than he's getting from Rafer haters/revisionist historians like you.

By the way, it's "you're", not "your".

Because Rafer was from single coverage passing in the post to Yao, who often turned and scored, T-Mac was passing out of double teams and getting the ball to players like Rafer who would then brick the shot. This is also basically true for career as well. And you scold me for supposedly not understanding stats? I rest my case.
