the rockets have two amazing superstars in Tracy and Yao, surely we need a pass first point guard, James, Francis and Brooks are NOT PASS first point guards and if anything James and Fancy are more 2 guards........

Rafer is best pass first point on the roster and unless we get one back should stay

we don't need Fancy creating stuff when Yao and Tracy are on the floor, just someone to get them the ball, maybe Stevie can raise the bar and wave them off.......

Tony Parker isn't a pass first point guard, but that didn't stop Duncan and Ginobili from scoring, and winning The Championship.

Parker is a far better passer than Francis and Mike James even without being a pass first point guard.

That's not the point, it's about giving the ball up.

Exactly. I have no doubt Francis (and James) will pass the ball when they play with Yao and T-mac. They wanted to come here, and they both know Yao and T-mac are our stars. I think Francis will adjust.

Princeton offense doesn't really require a pass-first PG. Actually, Adelman's system needs PG that can shoot.

imagine how solid rafer would be off the bench...sure he can't shoot, but he can facilitate offense when both T-Mac and Yao are on the bench! plus francis+rafer in the backcourt while our best player rests on the bench would be ridic...

not to mention we'll have bonzi off the bench at 3 if needed...we'll be unstoppable!! :D

He was already unhappy about the James trade.

I second that Rafer isn't needed here. It's as apparent as daylight that what Adelman wants is SHOOTER pgs, instead of passer pgs. Otherwise, why would he draft Aaron Brooks, who played sg in college, and acquired two shooter/scorer pgs in MJ and SF? Adelman's system emphasizes the whole team creating shots for each other by five scoring threats faciliated by motion.

He has some value but he needs to accept a lesser role. Under no circumstances should he be a closer. Initially, I was willing to see him start for the first part of the 1st quarter, but I changed my mind because we can't afford to start 3 or 4 on 5. He is a backup who's only value is his low turnover rate and willingness to pass the ball since he knows he can't shoot.
If he can't adjust to that, he needs to be traded even if it leads to 2 shoot first pass second PG's along with a rookie to take the role.
Mike James needs to start at the 1 IMO.

Wow. He really took it deep. I guess he feels like he's being replaced without any regards to his contributions these past two seasons. With due props to Rafer, he did try to get rid of his deficiencies last year. However, we have to face the fact that Francis and Mike are better players. I hope Daryl Morey talks to him about the organization's plans, at least.

I'd like to see Alston stay but I can't see that happening without 1) Alston taking on a severely reduced role which he probably would be unhappy about and 2) giving almost nil playing time to Brooks. So I guess it's bye bye Alston. Hope we don't miss him too much.
