That's inaccurate. Here's the correct explanation from Coon's FAQ: In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances: For two months after receiving the player in trade or claiming him off waivers, if the player is being traded in combination with other players. However, the team is free to trade the player by himself (not packaged with other players) immediately. This restriction applies only to teams over the salary cap. (Also see question number 72 for a special case where players can be traded together in less than two months.) http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#85 So, James could not be packaged in a deal with another Rocket player until 2 months after he was aquired, but he could immediately be traded by himself. That being said, I don't believe that the Rockets have any intention of trading James.
I don't think they knew they'd be signing Francis when they traded for him. So who knows what they'll do now. Like Morey said, when a player like Francis is available on the cheap you sign him and then figure out how to make it work.
Does Dunleavy still hate Maggette? Dunleavy drafted Maggette's replacement in Thorton. Rafer, Snyder, Reed and draft rights to Landry for Maggette. Rafer. Clips need a starting PG. Check. Snyder. Thomas can move into the starting 3 position, Snyder can be a stop gap replacement for Maggette. Reed. Clips released an energy guy in Singleton cause he was unhappy over playing time and wanted to leave. Landry. Trade bait.
Oh really? How do you figure that? Over the last 4 seasons, Camby has averaged playing in 66 of them. He also hasnt missed a playoff game either. For comparison's sake, Yao has played in 66.5 games over the same stretch. TMac has played in 65.75 games over the same stretch. If you're gonna call out Camby for being injury prone, you should probably do the same with Houston's two biggest stars.
well, to get foster and haslem would be overlapping, and we just got scola and we'll resign hayes. we could still use a SG/SF to backup tmac. snyder is not an answer and neither is bonzi. we could trade alston, but neither james or francis are pass first PG's. i think luther head is gone, and james and francis offer more versatility as scorers. they might not be in the same league as 3pt shooters, but they can score in other ways. we'll keep sura and save some money IMO, unless we can get someone awesome. luther and snyder are around $3.5 million? we could get a SG/SF shooter for them. we could throw in alston and go with a PG rotation of sf3,mj, and brooks. possibilities are endless. how about caron butler? luther+snyder+sura? they'll need capspace because jamison and arenas will be FA's at the end of the year. theyll be at $33 million next year, and arenas will be looking for $17+ million. jamison as well. theyll take up nearly half of the team's payroll, and they did draft nick young, who plays the same position as butler. kyler korver makes $4.5m and he's bigger than luther and can create his own shot.
As much as I'd love Butler, the dude is an all-star...gonna take a lot more than chump change to get him.
Giving up James would be a mistake. Sure there is a risk of personality clashes between Steve,Bonzi,Rafer and him but he is a more reliable PG than Francis who can still score in spurts but is more likely to turn the ball over.Steve is insurance for Bonzi not showing to play like last year IMO. I would give him some minutes at the 1 if Alston and James aren't getting the job done. Head and Sura for Foster, I don't think the Pacers will go for it but if they do the Rockets shouldn't hesitate to get it done.
trade expiring contracts for rasheed wallace not sure scola will adapt to the NBA. really don't want to loose out on the season because of a power forward who has a problem adjusting to the nba. let scola come of the bench for the first year sheed can shoot outside and play defense plus post up he is all we really need toyota center shouting SHEEEEDDD would be really nice francis, james, brooks tmac, bonzi shane rasheed, scola yao of course we wouldn't be as deep but really think it would put us over the top plus I really fill pistons will be wanting to move him after giving billups the money they gave him plus webber wanting to come back plus they are over loaded at power forward right now
we have too many guys on the team, so we have to do 2-for-1 for 3-for-1 kind of trades or trade for picks. let us move lucas for a pick, move alston+sura for a PF. Bulls I think are open to move Nocianni, and Bucks are gonna have to move Yi.
IMO we still haven't addressed our lack of a PF. We need a rebounding tall PF. I doubt Scola is as good as half the board here seems to think. I would very surprised if he turned out better than Hayes.
rafer for foster is the way to go. i think they will want luther too since they are in need of outside shooting. if we can land a first rounder in the deal then i'd say it's a deal. rafer for foster is even, then luther for a first rounder is good since he probably won't see a lick of playing time.
deke uselesss in the playoffs ??? incorrect....that genius JVG just didnt play him. he opted instead to play juwon, who gave us nothing on either end, a move believe cost us dearly, especially in game 7
So, on a team with T-Mac and Yao constantly drawing double teams you are going to trade two of our three best outside shooters (James, Head) non-offensive-impact players. Then you are going to put our best three point shooter left (Battier) on the bench in favor of a guard whose primary specialty is hist post game. So you have Yao, T-Mac, Bonzi, and Scola all trying to play inside with Alston left open to miss the open threes. Sounds a lot like last year. Plus, we don't know if Francis is going to be healthy enough to play a full season, and while the talk is good, we have yet to see Bonzi motivated to get in shape and play with team. I would honestly rather see Butler getting those minutes at the 4 and 5. I think he may be the sleeper of Scola trade.
steve has the potential to prove me wrong but at this point i think james is the flat-out better player. i would actually be against getting francis if it meant the loss of james. fortunately it doesn't. on top of it being just a dick move, i don't think the rockets have any intention at all in moving mike james.
