SOOOO HAPPY!!!! Francis will be perfect as 3rd or 4th scoring option. He wasn't great in Houston in the past because they relied on him too much and I don't think he is good enough to be first option. BUT GREAT MOVE!!!
Damnit guys, I check the BBS all day, nothing, then go to lunch and come back to 20 pages of PURE BLISS!!!!!!! PLAN THE PARADE BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O.K. All sounds good on paper (I think?). But the reason there is skepticism here by some is understandable. Orlando ended up not wanting him. New York ended up not wanting him (with injuries to boot). The last Rocket memories of him are indeed that he and Mike James are a lot alike -- too often the ball is in their possession too long during a play. They are both scorers, but not so strong as playmakers. When he was with the team I thought he should have been put at the 2 spot. I still think that would be best (as a few others here have mentioned). By the way how's his defense these days? Worst scenario is we end up like the Lakers team after adding Gary Payton and Karl Malone. Or the Rockets team with Hakeem, Clyde and Barkley. Seems like teams that should be able to make it to the Finals. But talent on paper is just that. Best scenario is that Adelman melds all this talent into a real "team" where everyone buys into the team. He stresses people AND ball movement. Only time will tell (since we still don't know the final roster for next season). But we need players that can shoot as well as run and post up. I don't think we have an abundance of that, still. But here's to welcoming Steve back and wishing he and the rest of the team a wonderful drive to a championship! P.S. - This is not so much to Morey's credit. It's not like he went in hot pursuit of Francis. As his agent said he "chose" to come here. I think the way the roster was shaping up -- the Scola signing, etc., the fact that he lives here and is a friend of Yao's made it pretty easy for him to "choose" the Rockets. All Morey had to do is say, "O.K."... GM of the year? After the championship parade.
Awesome. I know it won't happen, but I want the Rockets to trade away Mike James and keep Alston (*ducks head*). Anyway, it's been an incredible offseason, but I don't know how much credit Morey should really get. I'll give him credit (or blame, depending) for Brooks and Landry, and for Scola (though much of it was just classiness on San Antonio's part to accommodate Scola). But, he did very little to get Francis to come here, it seems like. If he were to try, he'd have courted him, preserved cap space for him, and whatever. He didn't do any of that and got Francis anyway. He also doesn't get much credit (or blame) for Bonzi Wells -- JVG and Wells colluding to submarine his market value get that credit.
No, that's part of the MLE. Steve actually has a chance to make more than going to other teams because some Chinese firms might give him extra sponsorship money.
Steve taking his physical in 30 minutes. He's getting a 2-year deal (same basic deal as Bonzi). Feigen thinks that Steve is a misunderstood player who can play well under Adleman.
