I don't put Mayo in that category of can't miss players. I didn't originally consider the extreme rarity of such a player coming along, so I wouldn't call the hypothetical leap taker a trailblazer. A Lebron or Oden comes along once in a decade.

Upon reflection, I think the outcome of Kevin Durant's one year cameo provides a convincing argument against my suggestion. His new shoe deal is representative of the lucrative, immediate endorsements helped by the national exposure gained in college. I don't think Oden or Durant are household names if they went overseas for a year, even if successful. 60$ million dollars certainly makes up for any money to be gained from foregoing your freshman year to go abroad.

That said, I'd still love to see it happen with Marbury. I'm sure Boki can put in a good word for him at Benneton Treviso.

I admire him for making this choice if he actually does it.

Actually yesterday on a local radio show here in Cincinnati he announced it.

Though he may have talked to the press about it before then it was news to me :)

Here's the link if you want to hear the interview (its on the left hand side if you scroll down)

You guys are all complete jackasses. He's not just going there because his wife likes it, he's goin to do a lot of charity work. He already does a lot of stuff for the community and makes sure his shoes sell for very cheap like others mentioned in this thread.

I guess he has future plans to team up with Jordan to make a shoe and then sell it for very cheap as well. Could you imagine Jordans for $20.
