I have not seen much discussion of Scola as being a strong rebounder. I have three questions: 1. Is this largely due to him playing in Europe? 2. Is he expected to develop his rebounding in his new role with the Rockets? 3. What are the chances that he actually turns out to be a very good rebounder in the NBA? Thanks for your input. I think these are important questions for the Rockets next year.
His rebouding numbers are skewed by playing in Europe, mostly due to his 26 mpg. But by all indications, he's only a decent rebounder. Whether he can improve is another question. I don't think anyone can answer that. I don't think Scola's the perfect duo to pair up with Yao, but he was perhaps the best we could get given our situation.
This was my original concern when i saw the presser yesterday. He looks very slimmed down even from the youtube videos he looks like he has lost some weight and thats not a good thing btw. I think the first thing morey and adelman are going to do with him is put him on a workout regimen hopefull including weight gainers
Unfortunatly, youtube doesnt have any rebounding highlights. I think that he will be more than capable rebounding in the NBA. Hustle players normally dont have a problem rebounding. That is normally how they get the moniker of a "hustle" player in the first place. I believe with the attitude that he has, he will do whatever is needed for the team to win. Since it just so happens that we need excellent rebounding from our 4 spot, I think that he will be more than willing to accept the challenge.
I think Hollinger's rebounding conversion rate from a top Euroleague to NBA would have him at just under 9 rpg for 36 mpg.
He's probably an average rebounder at best. And at age 27, don't expect him to improve in that area either. If we want to be optimistic, he might turn out to be an above average offensive rebounder just because he's so active and constantly moving. Scola can fill a lot of needs for us, but rebounding probably isn't one of them. Chuck was more than adequate for that.
If this is the case then Scola will be very good for the Rockets. I am a little bit confused as to why he only played 26 mpg. Can anyone enlighten me on Euroleague play?
Not a great rebounder, but won't be a liability either. his last season stats: 29,6 min. 7,17 rebounds per game. (7th in the League) 2,03 offensive rebounds. 5,13 defensive rebounds. (4th in the League)
Those in the previous posts are his ACB League stats (Spain) His Euroleague stats: 26,2 min. 5,87 rebounds per game. (14th in the Euroleague) 1,65 offensive rebounds. (20th) (His teammate Tiago Splitter leads the Euroleague in this stat.) 4,22 defensive rebounds. (8th)
It is the Euroleague. They only play 40 min and 26 mpg is good for over there. I don't expect him to be Hayes on the boards, but his stats suggest he'll be better than Howard.
Just quickly checking Nocioni, Garbojosa, and Oberto's rebounding stats their EL and NBA rev avg are more less the same maybe slightly less in the NBA.
He is one of the biggest guys in the Euroleague and is an average rebounder there. In the NBA he will have to go up against bigger, faster and much better rebounders. He needs to work very hard to become a good rebounder in the NBA.
