Nothing About vasilis on the second question.
They were just asking him about nickname the Latin Comunity could called him by. He said all Argentineans have a nickname but he is the exception.

In addition to the nickname question (around the 12:20 mark), the reporter asked him if he could describe his game style. He humbly replied that he doesn't like to talk about himself, and that it's even harder to talk about himself in front of so many people. He said that the people that have seen him play are aware of how how he plays, and that those that haven't, will soon know and they'll be able to come to their own conclusions. What he can say is that he will work hard in practice and in the games and do all he can to help the team.

i was super impressed with scola. i think we can all agree that he is, at least from an attitude and maturity level standpoint, ready for what lies ahead. if he doesn't have a significant impact this year, it will be either due to an injury or that he just isn't good enough. yes it will take time, and as adelman said, defense will be the most difficult part. however, he seems to possess the work ethic to make the transition to the NBA. i was equally intrigued with coach's comments in general but particularly regarding brooks. yes, hello, we all know he is undersized and will also struggle with defense. but, adelman seems to think he's ready to contribute right away. he feels that whatever he may give up on the defensive end, he'll more than make up for with his offense. adelman said that even NBA guards will have trouble staying in front of him and if his jumper remains as consistent as it has been in summer league, watch out. damn, i'm excited and it seems morey is not done dealing. who isn't excited yet?

Is anybody else as impressed and informed after Adelman talked? He seems to be a very frank, very reflective guy. He has an excellent way of giving the pulse of the team and is very clear on expectations and understanding of player's difficulties.
Nowhere have I felt more in tune with Rocketball than when Adelman talks. He's a great guy, great coach, and I hope he truly succeeds. :)

    Indeed.

His command of the English language is not only good it is even better that Manu Ginobili's. I dare say he is as good as Dirk Nowitzski's.

    Very impressive stuff.

    Thanks to HS for sharing.

The part of that whole video was at the end when they were questioning Adelman and he was basically reaching into his vast knowledge about the game and his basketball coaching IQ shines. I think that we finally have someone who really knows what he's talking about and that can really command the respect of his players. I am looking forward to this season and just hope that it's not ruined by injuries.... again.

lmao, because one of the knocks on van gundy was his poor basketball IQ and lack of respect from his players? please, if anything those were his unquestionable strengths.

listen, i like adelman but let's not get carried away.

on another note, scola pretty much had a perfect press conference, great poise and great answers.

I don't think he's comparing Adelman to JVG at all. Where did that come from? We're simply stating that Adelman has a unique ability to share insights of his basketball IQ and the players to the rest of us.

I do like the fact that Adelman expresses confidence in allowing rookies to contribute. I fully expect Brooks to get a chance to develop this season.

    Sweet clip!

Also, maybe I'm just being too lazy to lurk, but why was SA unable to sign or trade him for so many years? Was he asking for too much or was it some other factor?

His buyout was very large. The biggest factor apart from the buyout is the presence of Tim Duncan leading to lack of minutes. Thirdly, players like Oberto,Elson, and Bonner are their backups at the 5/4 spots.

Well it makes sense that he wouldn't be getting a lot of playing time with so many players in his position, but does anyone else think that Oberto, Elson, and Bonner are actually better than Scola?

I'm not sure where I heard it, but supposedly Scola is a better player than Oberto. They would be easy to compare and contrast being that they both played for the same international team. So, assuming that Scola is a better player than Oberto, wouldn't the Spurs rather sign Scola instead?

I do know that Oberto came at a cheaper price, but how much cheaper?

All of this has been discussed thoroughly in the original Scola trade thread and numerous other threads if you'll just look around. There are also numerous published articles about the situation. You are no less than the 50th person I've seen here that seems to think they are so special that they are entitled to a personal explanation while everybody else has to find out the answer the hard way - by *gasp* actually reading the threads and articles related to the topic. I'm fed up with it. Do what most of us do. Read. You will learn.

Yes, I have looked at the stickied thread - through all 61 pages! But I didn't find anything that satisfied my curiosity. I'm sorry you got your panties in a bunch, but I'm not trying to incessantly trash the thread.

You're fed up with it? Didn't mean to make you go ape while you sit on your desktop... Maybe you just need to calm down.

I asked a question though it might have been asked a few times already, but I was also asking for others opinion (if you actually read thoroughly what I wrote).

Scola is a better PF than everyone except Tim Ducan on the Spurs. SA didn't have the money to pay up the buyout and with Tim on the team, didn't see the need to pay the $$$. Now with a 4 year deal that Scola can sign with the Spanish league with high dollars, SA lost all leverage. However, he was good enough to have other teams looking to add him.

Rockets paid the cash and had the cap room (Cancel VSpan contract) to make it work. Also took the Center SA signed as a FA last year and everyone thought they did great. Turns out SA couldn't use Butler. Maybe Rockets can.

So Rockets lucked out with a willing owner to bring the $$$ to get our new PF.

Scola looks quick and can finish around the basket. Didn't see any outside shootig yet. He is much more offensively minded than Chuck Hayes. They will form a good pair. Scola looks like a high energy guy.
