She obviously was in an unique position being a powerful black woman who could have either supported her gender (Hillary) or her race (Obama). My understanding is that in the past she has been an ardent supporter of Hillary, but seemingly nowhas changed her allegiance to Obama. Obama is a smart man who by all accounts has been a capable Senator (though not experienced), so I'm not saying she's basing her support of him simply because he's black, as I'm sure her support of Hillary was not eentirely based on her gender either. However, I think we can safely say that race and gender both do push Oprah's decision one way or the other as it does for most people. Do you think this means that we identify more with our skin color than our gender? Why do you think that is?
I am a white man and would be more likely to vote for Obama then Hillary. I think Oprah found something in Obama she could relate to.
Well, if you base your conclusions on listening to SportsRadio610 callers (what a great data set, lol), then it's definitely based race. Black callers bomb the airwaves daily with defenses of everything from double murder (OJ), cruelty to animals (Vick), and steroid abuse (Bonds) with almost unanimous support for their racial brethren.
we identify with people who can win. seriously i think the dems would be idiots to select hillary, but that's another story. I don't think its as cut and dry as pirc1. you have to remember, being a woman is being a minority in terms of power or lack there of. so i think women have a stronger bond with each other out of that dynamic. just an opinion.
wow, just wow. it amazes me that you are continually allowed to post on this site. first of all to assert you know the race of callers is racist. for starters. wow, keep it up.
hey, i agree. i don't watch oprah or follow her book recommendations or care. however, i have no reason to believe anything other than she just feels he's the best candidate.
Which fact of mine are you disagreeing with? That was not an opinion statement. Did you listen to this morning's program? Multiple callers identified themselves as black and came out in support of Michael Vick. One even made the argument that because we eat pigs and chickens, then it is therefore acceptable to torture dogs. I am not making this up.
you have no facts because you don't know the race of the callers and I doubt you've done actual studies on what you think you know the race of the callers is. I'm not going to get into an argument over a bunch of b.s.
if that was the case, we would have had a female president a while a go as women voters outnumber men significantly. sorry hotballa, but I think oprah is a little deeper than that. She didn't get to where she is today by making decisions based on cosmetics.
whatever edit: I'll play along, what did all the white callers say, and what assumption can a I make about that.
