Alston + crap for Mobes would be awesome. Better than getting SF, imo.

Cuttino has proven to pick his spots though and has become more of a team player since JVG preached it to him. One thing about Cat is that his D is still underrated and can still hang with some of the perimeter players IMO, even though LA thinks Mobley is the worst defender in the league for some reason. However, I do agree that if Steve came here with Cuttino then I would not be in favor of it. I would rather have Brooks than Francis at this point because a Mobley-Francis tandem scares me again like one poster mentioned. I wish we could have kept Cat somehow when we traded for Tmac but that was obviously impossible. I still think Rafer is valuable for this team because we might have enough scorers as it is.

I'd consider it if someone could guarantee that

    a) we won't sign Francis, cause he'd be terrible as a PG here.. regardless of Cuttino
    b) Brooks can be a solid backup this year, cause JL3 sure ain't

Someone said that the rockets can get better than Mobley for Rafer+Sura. I would like to know who. That would be an amazing trade for the Rockets, but no way in Hell the clipps ever make that trade

we do not need another guard, especially if we get francis, i would rather trade alston/sura for a pf. actually, i would rather keep alston, he's the only playmaker other than tmac. james/cat/sf3/head/wells, who can really pass the ball to yao? yao will/should spend 90% time in low post, he needs a passing pg.

Does anybody in here realize how good Aaron Brooks is?? People keep talking about Alston or James running the point or trading for some other backup option.

I think there is a completely legitimate chance that Brooks will be our starting PG by midseason. I don't care of this kid is undersized or not, he has the ball-handling abilities of Alston and the scoring abilities of James in one package. He also showed amazing composure for a rookie in summer league. I know summer league is summer league but most guys on all squads looked out of control and lacked any poise. Brooks looked like a vet as much as any other player I saw, including the real vets.

I am confident that if Alston or James struggle for any stretch of time, Brooks will get a chance as a rookie, yes, a rookie, to take the starting PG duties on a team that won 50+ games last season.

The "Which Former Rocket would be best for the Roster" thread got me thinking.

Sam Cassell would be a perfect fit for this team.

And conversely our surplus of Small guards is perfect for the Clippers.

A package of Alston + Head + Snyder would work for Cassell + filler.

at this point in his career the last thing Sam needs is big minutes. we could give him the Horry treatment and let him rest for the postseason.

at the same time this would enable us to give significant minutes to Brooks as a back-up and solidify James as our big minutes pg.

also, if his injury problems persist he comes off the books after this season.

    win-win?

Funny but wrong, I just created this ID a few days ago and started contributing to the forums. I watched Aaron Brooks on NBA TV over the past couple of weeks and was highly impressed by his game. I am a 30 year old dude from Katy, TX that works as a computer programmer. I am also a fan that buys 6 and 14-game weekend plans so I can catch some live games each year. I have zero connections to any players or any other members of the Rockets organization.

    Yao for Oden?

    Any takers?

Would be a fantastic trade for both teams, one team gets size, and the other gets size and a young player.

    Ideas?

I hope not. All the rumored trades involving them include Jason Collins. The last Hou-Nets trade spec involved JHo for Collins. Rockets need to stay away.

Rafer/Kirk for Shareef and 2nd rd pick (this could be in the 30s-40s if Sac trades Bibby and Artest to develop their young players)

Sac needs a PG, if they are planning to move Bibby and they have a glut of PFs

Rockets will get some scoring/mid range shooting from Shareef...

Brooks looked like he can play back-up minutes to Mike James already... Mike Harris can take Snyder's spot...

If The Rockets did sign Francis, would you do this trade...

    Houston Trade Breakdown

    Outgoing
    Rafer Alston
    6-2 PG from Frenso State
    13.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 5.4 apg in 37.0 minutes

    John Lucas
    5-11 PG from Oklahoma State
    3.3 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 0.7 apg in 8.2 minutes

    Justin Reed
    6-8 SF from Mississippi
    2.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.4 apg in 7.8 minutes

Change in team outlook: -12.2 ppg, -1.3 rpg, and -5.9 apg.

    Cleveland Trade Breakdown

    Outgoing
    Donyell Marshall
    6-9 PF from Connecticut
    7.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 16.8 minutes

    Incoming
    Rafer Alston
    6-2 PG from Frenso State
    13.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 5.4 apg in 37.0 minutes

    John Lucas
    5-11 PG from Oklahoma State
    3.3 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 0.7 apg in 8.2 minutes

    Justin Reed
    6-8 SF from Mississippi
    2.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.4 apg in 7.8 minutes

Change in team outlook: +12.2 ppg, +1.3 rpg, and +5.9 apg.

    Successful Scenario
Due to Houston and Cleveland being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Cleveland had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    -----------------------------------------

    2007-08 Depth Chart
    1) Steve Francis / Mike James / Aaron Brooks
    2) Tracy McGrady / Luther Head / Kirk Snyder
    3) Shane Battier / Bonzi Wells / Steve Novak
    4) Luis Scola / Chuck Hayes / Donyell Marshall
    5) Yao Ming / Dikembe Mutombo / Jackie Butler

Someone else probably suggested it, but how about trying to pry Theo Ratliff from the Celtics? It would give the Rockets a big body and a serviceable backup at the Center and PF positions while Scola adjusts.

More importantly the Rockets would get Ratliff's expiring contract, which would come in very handy later.

I doubt, however, Celtics would be interested in taking anything the Rockets have to offer.
