Cuttino's interview after his monster game leading to Player of the Week nomination sits with Calvin and Bill for a chat. I love Cuttino, and I've probably read every quote by him...even the ones that make you cringe like "Steve and I lead, and everyone else follows"...but I have never seen him so calm, cool and collected. He is a team captain now and in a new groove, it seems. Maybe most of you turned to the World Series...but...I watched the post game Rocket's show. Had to!!! After a nice interview sitting with Calvin with the headphones on an all...Cuttino has been talking about the whole team...classic team captain talk...then Calvin tests him regarding Hardaways "I can't stop that!" comment about the 10' step back jumper... Calvin laughs and starts joking with him as Bill is closing the segment. "You said, 'No sir.'" haha and more "No Sir." Cuttino still just smiling. Seems like some team captain coaching to me by Rudy, with some testing by Calvin. I think it is funny! Much better than...i'm so cocky that "Steve and I lead, and everyone else follows." Thing is now...he is so casual in front of the camera...like those Iverson interview we like so much now. Nice, fun interview and very natural...even the diplomatic "No sir," seemed not to expect Calvin to play off it.
I also saw that post-game interview. Cuttino was, how shall I say it, simply very charming. It was a great interview. Have you ever seen Shaq in a post-game interview? What a contrast. Cuttino has a great work ethic, fantastic skills, makes alot of clutch shots, and he seems to have a great personality to boot. With guys like that, no wonder we are hearing great things about team chemistry regarding the Rockets.
HeyPee, I missed the interview. Was getting ready for the drive into work the next morning. I'll have to say, that sounds really nice to me. I know it's kind of a superficial thing, but it's a quality I really appreciate in someone I admire. Just like the best salesmen are the ones who can fake sincerety the best, my favorite sports interviews are the ones that can fake humility the best. lol. I have a little bit of a problem with putting an athlete or entertainer on a pedestal in the first place. Some guys remind me of groupies, talking about how great Francis (anyone of your choice) is. Give me an Earl Campbell or Nolan Ryan type any day. If this is the way Cat will be from now on, this guy is the greatest!
Crispee, I saw it & about fell on the floor laughing. It was a question that seemed to come out of left field. Murph's a trip. I've been one of those in the past, that's cringed every time the ball gets into Mobley's hands late in the game, but I'm starting to see what you've been seeing all along. Mobley is clutch & seems to have gotten better this year. I've been finding myself wanting the ball to go to him with the game on the line more & more. Mobley, Francis, KT, & Cato have all shown considerable improvement in their games & we won 45 games last year. With the additions of Rice, Willis, & the rookies, we should win quite a few more.
Achebe, I thought I made it perfectly clear, as long as they are good at faking humility, then it's all good for me.
I saw the interview too... did anybody notice that, referring to the game-ending shot, Cat said, "Yeah, Moochie got lucky..." I had to chuckle at that one.
Swami - are you saying Shaq is a good or bad interview? I think he's usually incredibly funny in the same manner as this Cuttino interview.
The couple of interviews where I've seen Shaq speaking after a game were all horrid. He talks like he has a mouth full of marbles, barely has a grasp of the english language, and he seems to be completely alergic to any type of eye contact. Whereas Cuttino in his interview was so very engaging, well spoken and seemingly humble yet enthusiastic. Mabey Shaq has had good interviews, but I've not seen one.
Unfortunately I don't get to see the post game stuff with digital cable in Austin. I have been surprised that they have used Bill and Calvin's commentating for EVERY game this year.... home or away.
