I know you don't drive in Houston, but are you renting a car in LA? If so there are cheaper areas where you can stay without all the annoying factor of sunset strip.
It isn't that. My friend told me to find someplace near there. Hell, she wanted me to spend $400/night at a place on Sunset.
I would stay at the Hollywood Roosevelt, it is right across from the Mann's Chinese Theater, and right in the heart of all the action. Also, it is right by the Subway which takes you anywhere in LA. SUPER 8???????? YECK !! DD
Where is your hotel reservation at, have you purchased it already? How close or far you want to be from your primary destination? If you don't mind driving, out-of-area hotel might be the way to go for good pricing. Cuz traffic's a b---- in L.A. especially in the summertime, a hotel thats pricier but closer might be more beneficial with the convenience factor I think...Its gonna be a b---- whenever but itd suck you're stuck in an hour of traffic and saying shoulda got that hotel that was 50 bucks more instead of doing this crap...(unless of course you're going to places outside of LA anyways...) Sorry to confuse it...Yeah priceline.com, expedia.com, travelocity.com or one of those places for good pricing.
i just got back. its expensive as crap to stay somewhere nice. i did i think my friend stayed at the super 8 for my event. i could ask him if u want. Take back roads when driving and stay off the freeway if at all possible. I had google maps on my cell and it was a lifesaver. Visit JR Bistro in Chinatown near Cezar Chavez under Ocean Seafood. It is going under renovation since they just bought it, but this is probably the best Authentic Chinese food that I have had in a long time and that says a lot. I once had a professional chef from China as a roomate. If planning to go to Pinks hit it up on a weekday early (10-11am). Otherwise dont bother. The waffles at Roscoes are the best ever but that place is overpriced for a chicken dinner (although its made from scratch on order). Pinkberry is a must. Palms Thai on Hollywood and 101 was good. Other notable stuff I did... shop down melrose kodak and chinese theater (make sure there isnt a premeire or the 'footprint court yard will be closed off, usually on the weekends) rent a bike and ride down the boardwalk near santa monica pier.
