Yeah RedRacer still hooping man (or at least trying to). Found a couple of indoor gyms on my side of town that we've been playing at. Bringing back the Matt Bullard school of basketball: stay outside at the 3 pt. line and wait for the pass + exert as little effort on D as possible.

But back to the topic, does anyone know if we can buy these Peak Battier shoes in the US?

Well not sure if that is true. But I've just read it today in the following tom.com article.

    http://nba.sports.tom.com/2007-07-14/0F7K/72616215.html

In the press conference in Guangzhou, Shane Battier told the reporters that he regretted that he might not be able to attend Yao Ming's wedding in person (He will leave China soon and will need to join the the training camp of US national team in Las Vegas (July 20 ~ 22) upon his return to US to prepare for the FIBA Americas Championship to be held August 22 to September 2 in Las Vegas)

He said according to what Yao Ming told him, Yao Ming's wedding will be very low porfile and small scale, and probably he won't invite any of the officials, friends and team mates, and only restricted to his family and relatives. But nevertheless, Shane Battier said he will prepare a gift for Big Yao to surprise him.

He also said when he met Yao Ming in Beijing 2 days ago, Yao Ming was very excited but nervous about getting married, and Shane just comforted him, told him to relax and to enjoy.

So did Yao Ming really travel to Beijing to meet Shane ?? I've been closely following every move and activity of both Yao Ming and Shane Battier for the past week, but did not read anything on the Inernet or newspaper about this. So Yao Ming must have done it in a very discrete manner and had managed to avoid all paparazzi attention.

But then it also showed the personality and character of Yao Ming, keeping his promise to Shane that he will come to see him when Shane visits China.

So after visit of the China Peak Group's headquarter and factory assembly line, and presiding over the opening of a China Peak Group sponsored Summer Basketball Training Camp at the 7th Middle School in Quanzhou, Shane Battier arrived Xiamen late last night.

This morning he appeared in another of China Peak Group's sales activity at a major shopping centre in Xiamen, by autographing T-shirts, basketballs and sneakers for his fans.

In the same event, which was actually China Peak Group's quarterly order taking event, whereupon distributors from all over China came to place orders for the next quarter, Shane Battier was introduced to the famous Chinese basketballer, Liu "War God" Yudong, who is now retired, but voted the best CBA basketball player of last decade and the first generation image spokesperson for China Peak Group.

Liu said he was pleased to meet Shane in person, and said they have one thing in common: they are both team mates of Yao Ming; he was Yao Ming's previous team mate in the national team, and Shane Battier is Yao Ming current team mate in the Rockets. He wishes Shane and Yao Ming can bring the Rockets to the next level this coming season.

Shane Battier said he knew Liu Yudong used to be a popular and great basketballer in China, and the idol of many Chinese youngsters who watched and imitated him, and that is why Chinese basketball will get better and better.

Then both Liu Yudong and Shane Battier signed their names on a big T-shirt as a souvenir of their first meeting, and took photos together.

Man, I'd love to have that nickname, 'War God' :D
I am still amazed at the reception for Shane over there. He's getting superstar treatment whereas here people only know him from the US National team. They must really be basketball starved over there.

Oh and Liu Yudong looks like he's having a hangover.

I think Shane can rest easier with the Scola acquisition. Now it's less likely he is traded for a PF.

I wonder whether the Rockets as a team should make an annual trip to China for promotional events and stuff like that... hmmm....

Well, have all Yao's teammates go there one at a time can maximize the effect yet still keep the fans hungry. ;)

Shane Battier has wrapped up his visit to China and left yesterday.

And so it also ended my coverage of his visit.

When Chuck Hayes visits China next month, should I do a similar thread about him, given there does not seem too much interest on what I did as illustrated by the low readership and posters' feedback/responses from this thread ?

YES. At least it'll be interesting to see if Chuck's thread will get more feedback.

um...you got 5,000 views on a non-action basketball event in a foreign country. I'd say that's excellent readership. You can't expect to get more interest than the recent trade we just made. Trust me pryuen, your efforts as well as your continued coverage are greatly appreciated.

Personally, I will be interested in a Chuckie thread, but you already knew that.

I loved seeing what Shane was doing in China, but to be honest, I had nothing to contribute as far as conversation about it. :)
