You want to watch Scola's skills? you can watch some of them in these videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LV1phCgmIS4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6tNlLqx-TM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TZwmj2cLvw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6IRCWXFQKk
this guy is on crack. Jackie Butler as Houston will see is a hard worker. Larry Brown is a no nonsense guy and he looooooved Butler. To the point where i was like wtf larry why is he on the floor. The knicks had 8 beat writers and none of them talked to jackie because he aint a star. I've been in knick/yankee/jets/mets etc press conferences. YOu think Miguel Cairo is a lazy parting bum just cause he doenst get quoted? He doesnt get quoted cause he's not an integral part of the team or a star. Spurs got duncan ginobili and parker, no one cares what butler has to say, so no one asks him anything. And if the cavs let butler stand in the way of scola, they're just stupid and deserve to lose varaejo, see who'll do the dirty work then
I was thinking about that too. From the video it seems that he likes to play in the low post which will overlap with Yao's comfort zone, I wonder how the coach will manage that.
well, if you watched Argentina's game before you should know that Scola shoots lots of mid ranges. The reason you saw so many inside plays in those clips is simply because inside plays (like dunks, etc) looks good in highlight clips, and ppl like to add these stuff in highlights.
anybody have the Search Function available to them? I'm sure he wasn't the first one that inquired about Luis Scola.
yes. He has a good mid-range shot. Oh, I forgot, he used to be a terrible free throw shooter. Now, he is at least decent.
I don't know anything about Scola so I'm keeping an open mind, but his rebounding numbers worries me. That and the fact that people keep mentioning that he's foul-prone. Not good especially since our other PF, Hayes, is also foul-prone. Oh well, we'll see.
Yes, he is foul prone. And I have seen the guy play for more than 8 years. About the rebounds, remember we are talking about FIBA basketball, not NBA. In FIBA there are a lot less assists and rebounds, because there are a lot of less shots thrown per game. I will look for last season's stats.
remember the Euro league use FIBA rule. Every game has only 40 minutes, and if you look at the average minutes Scola plays, only 26 minutes per game, that's much much less than Yao or TMAC average minutes in NBA. And so it's not strange both his average points / game and rebound/game are not so impressive.
2006-07 ACB League (its the Spanish League, the best outside the NBA) 29,6 min. 17 ppg. (second in the league, the leader averages 17,3) 60% 2pts 7,2 rpg. (seventh in the league, the leader averages 10,5) 2,4 apg. 1,7 spg. (seventh in the league, the leader averages 2,3) 0,6 bpg. 1,9 TO 2,9 fouls per game. (not in the top 15) By the way, he got the MVP of the Regular Season with these numbers.
You can't convert european numbers directly to the NBA. It's a slower pace game, with a longer shot clock. In addition, the game's 40 minutes long. There are probably other factors involved. I'm more inclined to trust the scouting report on him, since euroleague is pretty close to the NBA in terms of competition.
Scola is foul-prone but that's because all teams targeted him since he was always the biggest threat TAU had. If you target him on defence, it's easy to put him into foul trouble as he's very enthusiastic in his play and can't keep away from body contact. In the Euroleague F4 semifinal for example, Panathinaikos effectively put him out of the game (he fouled out after 20 minutes and only scored 6 points) by constantly attacking with the man he was guarding. I imagine that the NBA teams will not be targeting him as he won't be the number 1 threat so he might not suffer from fouls that much. Something else to consider about him is that he always had a very good partnership with fellow Argentinian playmaker Pablo Prigioni. It won't be an exaggeration to say that they were the "Stockton-Malone" equivalent of European basketball in the past 3 years. They played together both in the Argentinian national team and on TAU and they can execute a pick-and-roll with their eyes closed. I don't know how effective Scola can be without a playmaker who's first option was always to try and find him. Oh well, the big winners of this move are Rockets and Panathinaikos. Rockets get rid of Spanoulis and acquire a much-needed PF and Panathinaikos gets Spanoulis back and sees one of its main Euro-rivals (TAU) lose their best player
While, he won't be number 1 on offense. But if he is going to cover TD, Boozer, Dirk, Brand on the defence end. This is not being disrespectful for Scola, I still see we will have to play PF by committee, with Scola play ~25-28 minutes, and Chuck play 20 minutes...
He will adjust and I am sure his defense is no worse than his fellow countrymen Fabricio Oberto, you probably can say he will better defensively than oberto and VAREJAO.
Yes, I think thats the key. In the National Team the point guard who he makes the pick and roll with is Pepe Sanchez, since Prigioni has regularly failed to show the kind of level he has in Tau. With the national team he is not necesarily the first offensive option, and he adapts well to the role. Plus in Tau he played with Calderon and Bennet in the past and he did well. Even when he was the third big man of the team (behind Oberto and Tomasevic) some years ago. He will be a very good role player for the Rockets.
i ono i just saw the thread he made back in april abou tthe rockets acquuiring him..im sure others have mentioned it
