I know their's similiar roster threads but I see this one more-so like a Game. Assuming we sign back Hayes and Deke(I wouldn't resign deke) we have 20 men on our roster, who do YOU CHOOSE!!! In the other threads everyone is forgetting players so here is our full roster, what actions would YOU take!?? Also assuming Scola does come over. I would trade alston ect.. THIS IS ASSUMING the roster stays put.

    20-Man Roster-offseason
    1.Yao
    2.T-Mac
    3.Battier
    4.Alston
    5.James
    6.Butler
    7.Scola

    8.Snyder
    9.Reed
    10.Hayes
    11.Novak
    12.Brooks
    13.Head
    14.Lucas
    15.Sura
    16.Tsakalids
    17.Landry
    18.Bonzi
    19.Deke
    20.Harris

5 needs to be cut for the 15 man roster.. I choose- Colored RED
    1.Sura
    2.Tsakalids
    3.Reed
    4.Deke
    5.Lucas

Now we have 15, only 12 can suit up so pick 3 to go to the IR ORANGE
    1.Snyder
    2.Landry
    3.Novak

    My 12 Man Rotation

    Yao/Butler/Hayes
    Scola/Hayes/Harris/Butler
    Battier/T-mac/Harris
    T-Mac/Bonzi/James/Luther
    Alston/Brooks/James/Luther

With Landry and Novak both on the IR, if Harris doesn't cut it or if Scola doesn't cut it we can IMMEDIETLY replace them with Novak and Landry.. Vice-Versa if Bonzi doesn't cut it and is out of shape or if there is an injury in the non-deep SF position, Snyder is there to come in. Also we can take Butler and Landry sparingly off the IR for them to play in certain stretches or to have an advantage in match-ups with other teams.

Personally I wouldn't Resign Deke, I really like Deke as a person but he has no room in the Adelman system, plus he is broken down. He is a great guy with a rgeat career, but its time to hang the sneakers up.

BLUE is guys I'd like to see packaged for draft picks or involved in a trade to help the team. Like maybe one being traded for a pick and then signing Francis. We have depth at the pg system so if he gets injured or doesn't work out we r ok still.

I still want to keep Novak just in case there is a maricle. You can tell this guy tries hard but he does not improve at all. So far it is disappointing but...
If we do not pick up Landry but retain his right, between him and Harris it seems the latter is a better choice so far. That will save a spot.

I would be happy if we can fish out some value from Alston too.

Yeh, my bad I thought he had a player option for this year. Anyways http://www.nba.com/rockets/roster/ says he is a FA and we definitly won't resign his suckage self. So whats your picks, I'm sure we all would have picks Jake T in the first 5 cut anyways

Come on guys, its a game... I want to see YOUR GUYS PICKS TOO!!

Deke and Hayes are not signed yet, so it may be premature to add them to the list.

I don't see Mutombo, at 42 years old, being an effective player under Adelman. I hate to say it, but I don't think it's in our best interest to resign him. Let him retire gracefully.

And I expect Alston and/or Head to be traded before the season starts. Maybe we can get another backup C in return, in case Butler eats himself out of the rotation. Adelman wants to play Brooks, I think.

With the acquisition of Butler I wouldn't count on Mutumbo as being back.

The guy was finished in 2006. He caught lightining in a bottle briefly in 2007 but that started to dissipate as we got to the end, and I don't know if he can get it back. I don't think he'd fit in with the new "more phoenix-like" style that Leslie has embraced either.

My best guesses, and I do mean guess:

    Lock-Probably-Maybe-Gone

    1.Yao-lock
    2.T-Mac-lock
    3.Battier-lock
    4.Alston-maybe
    5.James-lock
    6.Butler-probably
    7.Scola-probably
    8.Snyder-maybe
    9.Reed-maybe
    10.Hayes-probably
    11.Novak-maybe
    12.Brooks-lock
    13.Head-probably
    14.Lucas-gone
    15.Sura-gone
    16.Big Jake T-gone
    17.Landry-lock
    18.Bonzi-probably
    19.Deke-maybe
    20.Harris-maybe

    6 locks 5 probablys 6 maybes 3 goners

Going by my scale- I see a rotation of James, Brooks, Head or Snyder, McGrady, Wells, Battier, Scola, Yao, Hayes or Butler depending on whatever factor

In Red I have people who need to go (Suras Contract, Jake is already gone i think, Justin Reed- whoever he is, and JL3)

In Royal Blue I have 2 guys who I'd like to be with the team, but with the current makeup, I dont see it being likely- especially not the both of them (Head,Alston). There is a point guard frenzy out there right now with the likes of Mo Williams and Steve freaking Blake getting the full MLE. With Luther still on his rookie contract and Rafer at an affordable 4 mil/ year, I definetely see Morey packaging either one or both of these guys with some of the crap in red to address other needs and clear room. Say what you want about them, but for 30 minutes/game - not 45 like last year - I would take Skip over those PGs any day.

And in Orange I have 2 guys to round out the injured reserve squad ( Novak/Landry). I know we can have 3, but somebody from the red will still be around to fill that area, or we'll accumlate somebody elses scrubs. I definetely want to see both of them succeed, but damn man...Novak is killing me. He cant even dominate the summer leauges like any good shooter should. Its like he lost his confidence. And with Landry, I think the Rockets see something in him, or they wouldnt have traded for the 30th pick to acquire him, and I see the 12th spot coming down to him or Harris. I just gave the early edge to Harris since he adds scoring that Hayes doesnt have.

Let me know what ya think

^^^ I like your colored layout and yours ideas bro, good job. I hope you don't mind, I also edited mine with a similiar color scheme

Agree, I loke Mt Mutumbo just as much as the next guy but he has no room on our team. He doesn't fit in at all with the system and to add to it his body is breaking down. I'm sorry deke, your a wonderful person but you should retire my friend and chill with your wife and daughter.

Maybe we can hire you as a coach for Yao's defense and rebounding. Yao's blocking ability has rose greatly since we aquired deke.

But I still think a 42 year old Deke is going to be more effective than Jackie Butler. It is not Rockets will break the bank to resign him. Vet minimum is all he is asking.

Regarding the guards rotation, if we can get Steve Francis to come back, then I wonder if that will mean Mike James instead Alston may be the odd man out. Maybe not in summer but by Feb trade deadline...

Did you see the 40-year old Deke? He was about as ineffective as it gets.

Butler isn't a horrible player - and his contract is already on the books, so that gives him a leg up to stay here.

You need at least 3 guys at one position. I would not count Deke for a big contribution this coming season but would still sign him back just in case of injury.

Almost exactly my opinion, but I would take Harris as one of the IR and keep the rights to Landry but let him play elsewhere and bring him back to try again next year. For as much as he said he's "Like Chuck Hayes but can shoot" I have yet to see evidence of it. One season in the NBDL or European League will help him, imho.

I think Jake is already gone, and Lucas3 saw this coming long before summer league. Deke may well sign with someone else, but I really feel bad choosing Butler over Deke... if we had one less player I would say send Butler to the NBDL and resign Deke.

All these players being around makes me uncomfortable.. they need to sign Chuck and relieve my stress. LOL

I think we need another trade to balance things out a bit. So, it's hard to say who we should keep, with it being so dependent on what the market wants. If we got stuck unable to make any more trades and just had to cut people, this is what it'd look like. I've boldfaced the guys I wouldn't want traded in any effort to equalize the roster. Everyone else is movable.

    8-man rotation
    1.Yao
    2.T-Mac
    3.Battier

    4.Alston
    5.James
    6.Scola
    7.Hayes
    8.Bonzi

    Remaining 4
    9.Brooks
    10.Head
    11.Deke
    12.Butler

    IR
    13.Snyder
    14.Lucas
    15.Landry

    Cut
    16.Reed
    17.Sura
    18.Tsakalidis
    19.Harris
    20.Novak

wow that's almost exactly how I'd slice it.

trading rafer, esp. in the offseason is a risky proposition. as outstanding as brooks has been in the summer league we don't know how well that equates into regular season production. he can be brandon roy or he can be JL3...its really a mixed bag. but even so, pgs are at a premium this offseason, so hopefully morey can keep up his hotsreak and get us soemthing worthwhile in return for a rafer package deal

personally I'd rather keep head than snyder. he can play spot minutes at pg if brooks struggles. and if it comes to the point where we need to invest in a veteran back-up behind james he is still our most valuable "expendible" commodity. the real reason being though, that he is one of the hardest working players on our team and I think he can still get alot better.

not to mention i like the idea of keeping as many long range bombers on the team as possible. brooks, james and head can all bomb from the guard position. snyder is a slasher alone, and I feel thats a skill that is easier duplicated. i.e., harris

Novak and Landry can spend a year in the D-League, so we don't necessarilly need to trade either.

    1.Yao
    2.T-Mac
    3.Battier

    4.Alston
    5.James
    6.Butler
    7.Scola

    8.Snyder
    9.Reed
    10.Hayes
    11.Novak
    12.Brooks
    13.Head

    14.Lucas
    15.Sura
    16.Tsakalids
-- he is a FA anyway
    17.Landry
    18.Bonzi
    19.Deke
    20.Harris

But Butler's summer league number is not impressive at all. I still say we sign Deke, but if Butler proves himself is a gem, then he can get more minutes as backup C. If not, we still get Deke to cover our back.
