I guess because Oberto worked so well for them and they won a ring, they want to keep the chemistry going. I think even for the same money they would pick Oberto over Scola right now. and on the "athletic 6'11 PF" thing, I was just mentioning it since that's what I always hear in this board when people talk about the prototypical PF for the Rockets. Heck you can see some posters on this thread talking about it too. I'm not one of them, frankly, I was ok with Landry, Chuck Hayes and some proven vet manning the 4. Mahinmi could be compared to Amir Johnson in that they haven't done anything but their measurements would have the BBS drooling over them.
Hi, There's a lot of misinformation in this thread. The Spurs were not "screwed." They operate very frugally and didn't want to spend $3 - $4 million to buyout Scola, who would be 2nd-string there. In Houston he will be a starter, so he's worth the buyout cash. Spurs have no intention of getting VSpan to play for them. The Spurs get to take Spanoulis' salary off the books, so he won't count against the cap. This is because he refuses to report, so when both parties voluntarily terminate a contract it's off the cap. That's some good cap relief for them. In addition they also dump Butler's salary, as well as get cash and a future 2nd rounder. Both parties win here.
There ya go dude. haha, thats cool. So can someone confirm whether Morey is talking about Luis Scola joining the Rockets this upcoming season. That'd be rad if true.
NBA teams can't contribute more than 350k towards a buyout, so that 3-4 mil buyout is false. It would be against the CBA, if the Spurs bought out Scola for 3-4 mil.
The league only allows a maximum of 500k from NBA teams to help players buyout their international contracts.
I like this trade, but haven't personally seen Butler. Here's what a quick Google search turned up: http://projectspurs.com/blog/category/butler-jokes/ Sounds like we may need wide angle camera lenses....
After sitting on it for a couple hours, I think I like this trade Good move! Edit: As far as Jackie Butler is concerned, didn't he play briefly for the Knicks? I remember he was pretty decent there, definitely Back-up material.
"In Houston under Adelman: Possible Stats Luis Scola: 14 pts 4 reb 3 ass 4pf" I agree. Though its on par with Battier. Plus with more points and playmaking ability It doesnt matter if he plays for the Rockets this coming year or next year 2008-2009 or beyond..as long as he PLAYS its a good deal. Scola playing 50 games off the bench for one year is more value than Spanoulis.
