So before he left Beijing for Guangzhou, Shane Battier went to join the inaugural ceremony of his China fan club at the campus of the Beijing University at 15:00pm in the afternoon. More than 1,000 of his fans (some of them travelled into Beijing from other Chinese cities) participated in the inaugural ceremony. Shane Battier was awed and impressed with his own popularity and he said: "This is the first time that I have my own fan club. I am very very excited and happy to be here with my own fans here in China." During the interaction with his fans, he demonstrated his favorite....with his back facing the basketball rim at the half court line, he attempted 3 shots....but he missed them all. He was sort of embarrassed and said: "I am not lucky today. I used to be able to do that at least 1 out of 3."
LOL! Some of these pictures are hilarous. Looks like he's having a fantastic time in China... Great fan turnout! Thanks for sharing the pics, again pryuen
Did you read what I posted? On at least 2 to 3 occasions in Beijing, (in the press conference, in the Sina.com webcast, in the inaugural ceremony of his fan club), he has reiterated times and again, he has got Rick Adelman's verbal commitment and assurance that he will still be a crucial part of the Rockets, the cornerstone in defense. NO, he won't be traded away ...... at least not this summer.
Shane Battier arrived very late in Guangzhou last night, and was not able to check into his hotel until 01:30am in the morning. But he was surprised and "ambushed" by a crazy fan who gifted him a hand-drawn T-shirt with his caricature on it when he arrived at the hotel. Shane signed on the fan's T-shirt as his return for the gift. Then early this morning, Shane Battier attended a news conference launching the China Peak Group sponsored "Basketball Culture Month" and the opening of the Stankovic Recreation Park (Guangzhou will be co hosting with Macau the 3rd FIBA Stankovic Continental Cup tournament end of this month, and China Peak Group, obviously, is a major sponsor of the event.) Here are some of the photos in that event. His stay in Guangzhou was very short, as he left by noon to travel to Quanzhou, Fujian and will be visiting the headquarter of China Peak Group there.
Shane Battier left Gaungzhou and arrived Quanzhou of Fujian this afternoon. Led by the Vice President Xu Zhihua of China Peak Group, he toured the assembly line of China Peak Group and witnessed the mass production of the Shane Battier II sports shoes. Shane Battier said the plant tour was an eye-opner for him, and he was ecstatic to see his own line of shoes rolling out from the production line.
YUP......you're right. His name is Li Quan, nick name Dazuiquan, literally mean Big Mouth Quan. And I also found out that obviously he is not a crazy fan that stayed up that late to gift Shane Battier the T-shirt, that I originally thought. His cartoon column/blog in sina.com was sponsored/financially backed by China Peak Group..... http://blog.sina.com.cn/dazuiquan
battier is a good man. http://blog.sina.com.cn/battier Hello from Beijing! I am in China for my annual PEAK tour. We had a long flight that was delayed an additional six hours because of thunderstorms in Beijing. It was a long flight but I am glad I am here. We started the day on Tuesday visiting the Birds Nest Olympic stadium. What a great stadium! I was really impressed with it and I know it will be a great centerpiece for the Olympics next year. After the Birds Nest, I visited with one of my fans, Lu, who wrote me a letter and told me how big of a Rockets fan that he was, it was great to meet him and visit his house. In the afternoon, I had a photo shoot for next year's promotional print advertisements. They looked pretty good and I am really excited to see the finished product. In the evening, we had a press conference with the general manager Mr. Xu and we unveiled the Battier 2 shoe. It looks awesome and it felt great on my feet. I thing that everyone who bought the Battier 1 shoe will be impressed as well. Be on the lookout for it in October. It was a great, but exhausting day! I was barely able to stay awake for dinner. It is fun to see the friends I made last year while I was here and look forward to meeting new ones as we travel to different parts of China this week. I'll check in tomorrow and tell you about day two in Beijing. Talk to you later, Shane
Yeah it is REALLY HOT (in its true sense) these few days in alot of cities of China. When Shane Battier was in Guangzhou this morning, he told the press/media that he has found the Houston of China. He said Gaungzhou is as hot as Houston. It was close to 35 degree Centigrade (i.e. 95 degree Fahrenheit) today.
Will Shane's Peak shoes be available in the US? I wouldn't mind a pair of these to casually hoop in. And I'm sure they'll be very affordable.
Shane must be wallowing in all the appreciation he's gotten since he arrived. His own shoe line and thousands of fans wanting to see him and take his autograph. I can't think of a better man to receive all that love than Shane. True embodiment of sportsmanship and role model to the world. On a side note, I wonder if he'll be seeing Yao again while he's over there?
Pryuen, do you know how much I can buy Shane Battier's tennis shoes? I'm sure they are available online. Can you help me out please?
