Watching the Magic press conference introducing Rashard, and a reporter asked him about teams calling him and making the effort and he replied with "Especially Houston I got home and had a jersey, box already there for me"

I think that pretty much clarifies that we made a strong effort to get this man for him to say without hesitation that we made a really strong effort to get him, his mind was just made up.

On a side note, the GM Otis Smith just said Darko will NOT return to the magic, lets try getting him for the MLE....pipedream

Great job for recriuting someone that we had a 1% chance of getting.....Now lets make those efforts carry over for players who we have at least a 40-50% chance of signing.

We already knew the Rockets dropped the uniform off at the house though, but it sure would have been nice to have gotten some interest from Rashard:

"I had eyeballs on Cleveland, and Miami was most definitely high on my list, and Portland," Lewis said upon reaching his agreement with Orlando. "I had Plans A, B, C and D, but Orlando was Plan A."

And he admitted he wanted Seattle to have first shot. WTF were the Rockets ... PLAN F?

No Sir, I want Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki, Dwight Howard, Emeka Okafor or Elton Brand...BUTTTT...much like R.Lewis deal, gotta a 1% of obtiaining any one of these guys.

Joe Smith?- Sure or maybe a few other guys that are a bit realisitc. I just want Rox Mgmt to put forth the same effort for R.Lewis on someone who will actually take what we can offer both $$ and position.

Whose says they put forth a lot of effort to sign R. Lewis. They knew he going to money and they didn't have any. For a $20 jersey they got a nice scapegoat when we end up with a less than ideal PF.

$21MM/yr for 6 years will put the Magic in salary/luxury cap prison. I thought $15MM/yr for 5 years was too much. I'm happy for him getting that kind of money but I'm glad it was another team. Rashard is very overrated as an NBA player. He is definitely not a superstar.

Good Point. Lewis had a great chance to come back home and I hope he will not get another chance. The Rockets will win a Chip before the Magic will ever win a Chip.

I wouldn't mind him either, but my point is that that's the best guy we have a chance to get as of right now in free agency. I don't mind them taking a chance on trying to get Rashard at the expense of a little time that could have been spent on getting Joe Smith.

woopteedoo, a personalized jersey, probably cost $30 to make at most. And morey drove by his house, sure the act counts, but its convienent to live in the same town. Morey would have s***** his **** to get him to sign....for 7 million or less. I don't blame morey at all for trying his best but scoffing at the idea of paying him anything close to what he got is smart.

nba players are like chicks, you can court them like lancelot, but in the end, they only want a sugardaddy.

6 year/124M S&T, if the raise is 10% per year, then he starts with 18.7M next season. Man, imaging we have TMAC(19M), Yao(13.3M) and Lewis (18.7M) on our team next season.

If this is the case, Orlando GM should be fired! He is not worth 60 million.

    Exactly.

"Courting him the hardest" and having an actual chance at signing him are two very different things. Hey, I could go all out and court Jessica Alba harder than any man, but that doesn't mean I'll get to "sign her to a deal". Morey just ended up wasting resources and time on someone who's now getting $15 million a year more than he had to offer. *cough*PRMOVE*cough*

Does this mean that in 3 years, Morey's gonna show up at Lebron's door with a personalized jersey? Boy, I sure hope we court him the hardest, too.

I still cannot believe this borderline allstar is going to be making more money than Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili combined. WOW.

Orlando overpaid him but oh well. I laugh at Morey for actually thinking Shard was going to take a big hometown discount. I hope this guy has some plans up his sleeve.
