    1. you'd be braindead if you didn't take that much money if you knew you weren't worth that much. Lewis has so much money, his grand kids are going to be playing lacrosse. Lacrosse, Liz Lemon.

    2. ef the magic, never liked that organization, if they want to make r****ded financial choices, let them. Its one less team to worry about, and they have Dwight Howard, so they were a legit threat...until now.

    3. I'm not going to lose any sleep over Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and a few scrubs. Will they make the playoffs? sure, maybe even more than once, but they won't win and they now don't have enough money to sign anyone else that will make them a good team. They are screwed for most of their other positions.

My guess is that Seattle paid Orlando some money to make this a sign and trade so they could get a gigantic trade exception.

They can pretty much trade for however they wan for nothing now.

i thought the original deal was too much. this is just absurd. congrats to rashard but the magic just guaranteed mediocrity for the next half-decade. i don't know what other options they would have had anyways.

Absolutley crazy a guy who is barely a second scorer is getting 20mil. If that is the going rate Timmy should get the full salary cap next year when he becomes a free agent. ;)

one person at an Orlando Magic Forum got it right. Quite funny I thought:

("Tonight, starting for YOUR ORLANDO MAGIC we have at Center DWIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGHTTTTTTTTTTT HOWARD, and Small Forward RASHAAAAAAAAAARDDDDDD "MONEY BAGS" LEWIS, and.... NO ONE ELSE. It appears salary cap complications have saddled the magic to only fielding two players tonight.

I predict that for the next 5 years, then dwight howard leaves because we have no team and he's going to be like "Man, I can't carry Rashard on on my back to the ship, his pockets full of change weigh me down too much"

10 years later, the lakers are finishing their dynasty of Random-all-star-wing-man-not-being-paid-too-much-money with their 3rd championship. Then dwight comes back and says he'd like to own Disney Land and help produce "Finding Rashard: A money story", a twist of Finding Nemo, his favorite movie, where Rashard Lewis eventually is found laughing in a bank.")

Good for Rashad and the Houston economy :D

I guess it's not just the Orlando housing market that will drag.

The Magic were bidding against themselves. They should have laid out 5yrs/$65MM and been done with it. What a horrible move.

Orlando must be using NBA2k3 to determine Lewis' potential. I remember he always ended up being a superstar after about 2 years in franchise mode, but real life is a whole lot different.

The Magic is one of the wierdest pro sports teams in recent memory. They win the lottery in back to back years and get a dynasty in the making, then it all goes go shambles. They sign two of the biggest free agents in Hill and McGrady, then it all goes to shambles again. They win the lottery again, and once again sign a top free agent.

Third time's a charm? Lewis and Howard are definitely enough to get Orlando to the ECF. They compliment each other well, also. Howard is a beast on the boards and defensively on the low block, and Lewis can score from almost anywhere on the floor. If they had a halfway decent point guard, I could see them winning 55 games.

Dwight Howard is not a beast defensively on the low block yet. He's pretty good at help defense, but good (and even decent) post players can pretty much get what they want against him.

in other words, players have different values to different organizations. if orlando wins, its well worth it.

It's hilarious. the minute they rid hill's contract and got out of luxury tax zone, they get RIGHT back into it by throwing a huge chunk of money at lewis and will throw more to extend howard.

You guys thought our management was bad? These guys have been in a hell hole ever since Shaq left.

In Orlando's defense, they had to spend that money on somebody. Overrated or not, Lewis was the best available free agent this offseason.

That's the only problem with the "max contract" system. it leaves team executives with almost no barganing position. When money is the only thing you have to offer, you almost have to overpay players.

It's weird that the really good teams almost never have cap room to sign good players, yet they continue to be good. Are the great teams great because they spend money wisely, or can they afford to spend money wisely because they are great?
