Don't you think this is a real cheap blow to those genuine Battier's fans who waited in the airport for 6 to 7 d@mn hours just to see their idol?
Thank you for the link. As always, you're the resident Chinese expert. Very interesting commercial, I wish I knew what the background speaker was saying.
calm down. He was joking. I think the fans were sincere in the picture. Now I understand why Stern wanted to expand in China.
David Stern wants unite the world in a game where fans don't riot or watch stupid 0-0 games. Thank god everyday for David Stern. Let Basketball rule the world!
THat is a real cheap blow to the match of football. You hit it right on the spot though, basketball is just a game. Football is life and death. They should never be put on the same pedestal until one day when a rockets fanatic would shoot down Rafer after he misses his 10 straight wide open shot and costs us a trip the second round.
I would love to live in a society in which throwing flares and rioting over a game is considered the norm.
were you talking soccer (which is called football in the whole world except in US) or football in the States?
yeah you can't ridicule basketball when soccer fans kill their coaches or threaten to kill other fans. the NBA teaches peace, love, fun, creativity and life.
Shane Battier had a fully packed morning. First he spent 3 hours in Qinghua University for taking plain commercial photo shots for China Peak Group.... Even had to put on skiing costume ( in down feather) and a Chinese costume for use at Chinese New Year.
After the commercial shot at Qinghua University, Shane Battier went to visit the Bird Nest, the main Olympic Stadium of Beijing for 2008 Olympics. There he met an ardent fan of his, who is the son of a worker of the stadium. The kid used to write Battier over his blog at sina.com. The kid invited Battier to visit his home. Shane went to the kid's home, and the kid took out a letter of admiration and read it out to Shane, telling him he is his diehard fan, and he hopes all the best to Shane and the Rockets, and since his father is also a Rockets and Yao Ming fan and had contributed in building of the Bird Nest, the kid would like Shane to come back to visit the Bird Nest, him and Beijing during the 2008 Olympic. Shane gifted him a pair of sneakers and an autographed basketball from China Peak Group.
He looks pretty damn ridiculous in that skiing outfit. However, he looks pretty damn sharp in the Chinese New Year outfit. Maybe it's because he belongs in Rockets red.
Shane Battier held a press conference organized by China Peak Group this afternoon in Beijing. He first addressed the audience including media and fans in Mandarin: I am Shane Battier. I love China and I love you. He then clarified the rumour of his trade; he said those were rumours. He had talked with Coach Adelman. He firmly believed he will be a cornerstone in Coach Adelman's defense systems, and will be playing alongside Yao Ming in the new season. He said originally he had this appointment with Yao Ming to visit him in Shanghai. But now since Shanghai is removed from his itinerary/schedule, and as he understood Yao Ming is very busy in arranging his wedding, he is not sure whether the 2 of them can meet and dine in this visit. He said he will stay in Beijing for a few more days and then will visit Xian, Gaungzhou, Xiamen and Quanzhou. He then with the Vice President Xu Zhihua launched the Shane Battier II sneakers. He said he was very pleased with the Shane Battier I, and right after the win over LA Lakers, Kobe Bryant walked up to him and asked what kind of shoes he had. And he proudly pointed to his sneakers and said they are from China Peak Group and it was one of the reasons why he could play almost the full season without injury and can guard/defend most star players. Then he was awarded the NBA Award of Professional Excellence by Yang Yi, Chief Editor of Titan Sports. He won the award thru public voting of Chinese fans in a campaign organized by Titan Sports.

...ROFLMFAO!!! Another reason to love Battier. And whatever happened to BattiersBaby? She would've loved this.
All this stuff on Shane is great, but I like best where he visited the kid's home. I lived in China six years. Contrary to popular belief, I think Chinese are very emotional compared to Americans, also sincere. Sometimes Americans either have too much stuff to care about a little ol' Shane Battier, or are too cool. People liking people: there's nothing wrong with that! I remember: I was teaching class in Shanghai when the Bulls won in 98 I think it was. Since I wanted to see the game and some kids in my class did too, I let us have the TV on to watch the game during class. When the Bulls won the final game, one of my students was so happy he was crying, man! Gotta love it.
NBA might bring some peace, love, fun, creativity and life. Teaches? Try to sell that to Steven Jackson who shot his gun in air infront of a nightclub, J. Smith who ran over a stop sign to kill one of his friend, and R. Artest, C. Anthony in the brawl. These are of course rare occasions. So were the riots in soccer. Not every game ends up with something like that. Even in a riot, it is probably 50 out of a total of 60000 fans. If a basketball can hold so many fans in one stadium, with even more can not get in, meanwhile bring the same PASSION that soccer brings, riots won't be any less in NBA. I like NBA but enjoy soccer more. In my opinion, NBA reflects (to some degree) the entire culture of America, worshiping power, strength and idolize "HERO". People here like "superman"-type heroic actions. You see it in "Fear factor", you see it in "Hero", you see it in every action movie which normally put one "Hero" against a bunch of bad guys. In NBA, you see it more up close, you get to be at least 6 feet total, 200 lbs to play the game. Without basketball, Yao would only be a "freak" because of his height even with his nice personality, in the NBA he is a legend in make if he stays on track. On the other hand, soccer is more of a TEAM work. More players involved, much broader field to work with, a goal is much harder to achieve too, and that is exactly what attracts me, the strategies, the hard work and the ELEGANCY. The best players have about the same size as a normal person, like a regular adult fan. Plus, top soccer games bring passion that no where NBA games can amount. I've been to the football games too, felt they were too "physical". That is why I use the word "Elegancy" for soccer. Anyway, I enjoy soccer, and I like NBA. I don't like football that much but I enjoy the show and the reaction of the fans. If NBA TEACHES you love, peace and fun, I wish it didn't shorten your sight to a small field. Just a normal sports fan, just my 0.02.
Judged by the low readership and very few responses from this thread, I kept wondering are there any people on this site Shane Battier's fans ? Should I continue my coverage of his activities in China?
How much is Shane's PEAK deal worth anyway? Seems like a lot of work for a shoe contract. Is Chuck Hayes going to also come to China and do promotion work?
