dawg, its time to get off the bs drayton has been selling us, i see its affecting your judgment. It is time to give it up. its nearly impossible to get back up there. I really want the astros to contend, but it just aint gonna happen. Drayton needs to realize that astros fans arent stupid. we know the team sucks, and its time for you to be truthful to us.
they have six games left against the cards; 10 against the cubs. same deal applies. it's not realistic; but it's also not as far-fectehd as '04 or '05 when the cards ran away with the division and left us only the wild card. we can control our own destiny by beating the teams in our division.
this is not meant to be definitive by any means, but the team did lose 8 games in which the bullpen blew saves. that's a significant amount of late-inning losses. if they can repair the bullpen on the fly......
even if we had a decent bullpen- our offense isnt that great. i mean even going in we were 'hoping' ensberg and lane would produce like they did at one point in time. thats not a good way to start off...
Our offense has been near the top of the league for the last month. I don't think they're nearly as bad as some think. We have three legitimate power bats and two other guys that hit for good averages in addition to those three.
i dont mean to jinx him *knockonwood*, but im fearing pence may hit that wall... in this day and age, scouting reports, and all sorts of analysis. the hope is that hew continues this way because they havent figured him out upto this point, so will they later on? i hope not tho, cause he RULES.
The offense is not the problem... otherwise they would have gone undefeated this last month when they were one of the best offenses in the league (instead of the .500 or so record).
he's been up since april 28 - he may yet hit a wall, but the possibility is growing more and more remote. it's very nearly time to start thinking of him in "real deal" terms. this offense is better than the one they trotted out in 2005. much better.
No way we make the playoffs. Sure, it's possible, as we have seen it happen (or almost happen) in the past 3 years. Realistically, though, we can't expect the 'Stros to play .600 or .650 ball during the second half of every season. And, as everyone else has mentioned, this team just doesn't have the pieces that past teams did.
I think this team may repeat last season's performance...they get on a little roll but come up just short. It's not too hard to imagine Milwaukee scuffling a little bit in the second half as the finish line approaches; a young team looking to make the playoffs in I dunno how long starting to press a little to get over the hump. Then you got the Cubs and Cardinals who have problems just like the Astros. So I'd look for the Astros to get close but fall just short...they make any kind of small run after the All-Star break and get close to .500 they probably stand firm at the deadline...which I'm thinkin would be a mistake. You have a tradeable asset in Jennings that could yield perhaps a catcher or 3b you might as well go for it and try to pick him back up in the offseason or go after another number 2
