The Wiki page for the Transformers Movie says that Bay originally wanted to do a GI Joe movie, but chose not to because of the current military environmen. This in turn led him to the Transformers.

Robotech- the rights have been purchased i think , but nothign in development
He-Man- rights purchased, pre-production to start soon
Thundercats- CG is coming out in the same vein as ninja turtles
GI Joe- a script was written up- it sucks donkeyballs. its not gijoe, since they want to tailor to the international market so its...Gijoe and Action Man! focuses around duke and action man....no Snake-eyes in the movie...thats like making x-men with no wolverine, except snake eyes is cool.
Voltron- these rights were also bought up, not sure what else is going on with it.
Smurfs- this is in pre-production. John Lithgow is rumored for gargamel. All i want to know is how the smurfs reproduce if there is only one skanky ho in the entire village.

I thought it was common knowledge that the Smurfs were gay. Smurfet was a tranny. If I remeber she was originally a bad boy smurf congered up by gargamel to infiltrate the smurf colony. Papa Smurf got a hold of this and switched him to a she.

I've always thought the same thing and considering how much a cult hit that show was I'm surprised nobody has ever given it a shot

I've always wondered what Care Bears would look like if Quentin Tarantino directed it.. but I think Care Bears are from the 90's.

Did anyone else see the cartoon of the Smurfs reality show with smurfette as Anna Nicole Smith? I was trying to find it on Youtube but couldn't.

Did find this though that might answer some questions.

i cant believe the studios didnt think of this genre sooner, i mean the age group is perfect. most of the people who were fans of transformers and the like are now middle-aged adults, who wouldnt mind forking over a few bucks to see a movie for throwbacks (and made by Bay and Spielberg no less). add in the kids who think it looks kick@$$, and youre set to make a boatload of money.

Plus who would play Snarf? Danny Devito? CGI?
