It's not what the Rockets are offering that is the problem for the Maloofs. Geoff Petrie (the Kings' GM) was in favor of the trade with the Rockets. It's that the Maloofs do not want Artest to end up playing for Adelman, regardless of how many teams are involved in the trade.

Battier+Alson+novak is gonna be the starting offer if you want Artest

I believe that comes from the blog by SacBee's Sam Amick on June 16th:

On the trade front, it appears Bibby is more likely to be moved than Ron, but both are available. And in both cases, Kings hoops prez Geoff Petrie will not be had and will be plenty stubborn to get fair value in return.

Cleveland and Dallas remain possibilities for Bibby, and I'd put Miami atop the Artest list. Because of the Maloofs-Rick Adelman history, I just can't see the Kings sending Ron or Mike to Houston just to watch the familiar pieces recreate the success of the 2005-06 Kings team with the help of Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady.

What exactly is the problem with the Maloofs? Why the anomosity towards RA?

Ohhh... I thought we wanted more players who could score. I guess we have all the offense we need. My mistake!

Artest can guard PFs, though. I would think that making the other team's PF shoot contested jumpers from 15ft would be just fine. Really, even though Chuck is short, I can't think of many times that the opposing PF has gotten that many jumpers over him. Chuck hasn't been a liability on defense because of his strength and defensive skill, two things that Artest has gobs of (in addition to rage and selfishness).

Thanks. That's a nice find, but it seems like speculation to me, not something that actually came from inside the organization (although it's not something that likely would have come up unless a deal were actually being considered anyway).

On ESPN 2 Ric Bucher said about a week ago that the Rockets and Kings GMs had agreed upon a deal involving Spanoulis and others for Artest but that the Maloofs nixed the deal. They said their was very bad blood between Adelman and the Maloofs and that they refuse to "help Adelman in any way."

They also said that apparently there is some issue between the Maloof family and the Rockets over from when their father owned the Rockets.

So it really is nothing concrete one way or another but apparently this makes it hard for Morey to swing a deal for Artest or Bibby. Bucher reports things all the time that don't come true or turn out wrong, etc. But this was what they were talking about.

I would love to get Artest somehow! I would trade Battier and fillers for him. He is a game changer and the best perimeter defender in the NBA. He could propell us to the giants of the West. What are the chances of getting him and Amir Johnson? We would be in the same class, if not better, then the Suns, Spurs, Mavs.

    Think about this line up:

    Starters:

    Mike James
    TMAC
    Artest
    Amir Johonson
    Yao

That would be very solid on both sides of the ball. 4 Can create thier own shot. Our D would be very good as well, and our rebounding would be one of the best in the West!

    Bench:

    Wells
    Head
    Hayes
    Alston
    Mutumbo
    Brooks
    Novak
    Landry

Our Bench would be one of the top 5 in the NBA IMO.
    That is a deep bench!

We could win 60 games......I know I am dreaming, but I would think this was our most talented team ever! Thoughts?

I would definitely fancy a artest and adelman reunion. If we can get artest without expending battier, then its definitely a steal for us. Artest is a strong, physical player who can play effectively at both ends of the court. Artest is NOT going to play PF, he'll play SF to replace battier. Once this deal materialise, i expect battier to traded.

We need a true forward, Artest is very short to become the Rockets power forward

Yes he is but if we have Ron we will probably trade Battier for Power Forward so Artest is a good option for us

From a basketball standpoint, I'd love to have Artest, absolutely love to have him as a replacement for Shane Battier since Artest is stronger, more athletic, better offensively and defensively than Battier. However, with Artest comes his extra baggage, and if that weren't a problem (Which is impossible) then I'd be all for it. As of now, I'm a little more than shaky about it.

    Au contraire, Dave_78.

#1 - Chuck is a plus defensive player. Do you really think he would have gotten any minutes on the Rockets last year considering he does nothing to spread the floor if he wasn't considered a defensive asset by JVG?

#2 - Artest does have strength, but if he is going to get abused anywhere, it will be in the post. It definitely won't be on the perimeter or on 15 foot jump shots. PFs won't have the foot speed to blow by him, so he will be able to be up in their face, negating the height advantage outside the paint. If they do get deep post position, he will be hurting, but will anyone else. He should have the strength, speed, and nastyness to deny good post position most of the time.

#3 - You may be right on this one, but if I remember correctly, he was pretty good at shooting the 3. If Adelman uses him correctly, he will help space the floor - like a Novak who can defend.

I don't know if we can get him, but with Adelman coaching, I think he would strengthen the Rockets.
