jopatmc - we are on the same page. I have a feeling that he will show the most significant progress of all players under Adelman. His ability to move without the ball and find gaps in defense will be utilized more than last year.

I'm a definite Chuck"ster" as well, but there's a reason he can't guard Boozer or "the Big Fundamental." It's his size.

Chuck will be a GREAT rotation guy, but he does not belong in the starting lineup for a contending team, and for Morey or Les to look at this as anything less (sorry for the pun) right now, would be a crime indeed.

I fear greatly they are trying to find the cheapest trade option, narrowing our payroll by sending off Luther and probably JL3, (maybe even Rafer :D ), for someone who's basically only a "serviceable" larger version of Chuck.

Our next Starting PF needs to be someone with potential to be at least 2nd or 3rd team Defense All NBA, otherwise, what's the point?

Before the All-Star Break Landry will have moved in front of Hayes. Bank it!

It doesn't matter who starts. What matters is who plays and who finishes.

By the way, barring a major trade going down for Artest or Camby, we are not going to find a more efficient option than Hayes. We may find another good complementary PF to play alongside Yao and with Hayes, but we won't find a PF that does everything Chuck does and they gives us more offense or more defense. We may find a PF with a very effective offensive skillset or with more size or athleticism, but barring a major trade for Artest or Camby, they will not replace Hayes. He will still get 20+ minutes per night.

Really, the truth is that we need another 4 to replace Juwan's minutes and gives us an upgrade over Juwan, not Chuck. Juwan was the weak link, not Chuck. And the absolute worst part about Juwan's game is he couldn't play alongside Yao. Chuck is going to get his minutes and be effective, it really doesn't matter who he is playing with, he's gonna ball. Of course, we may get lucky and wind up with an upgrade to both Juwan and Chuck in the form of an Artest or Camby, but even if we get one of those guys, Chuck is still gonna get his 20+ minutes per night and be effective. He is a very solid rotation player.

By the way, Chuck is our best defender against Boozer and Duncan. And probably only Camby or Artest would be a significant upgrade defensively over Hayes when defending those type of post up 4s.

chuck guarded boozer pretty well, in the beginning of the series, but than he was making crazy high-arch fadeaways that he would make against yao. in the west, even duncan can't guard garnett, or viceversa. but, chuck have been pretty good on several great pfs, like jermaine o'neal.

They already have that guy - they drafted him in the second round. Goes by the name of Landry.

There IS no point. Never was. You guys are being played by Les & Morey. I see thread after thread here of potential possibilities where we ship out or exchange our inferior players for a player of substance that will vault this team into the role of legitimate contender. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that just ain't gonna happen. There are no Carroll Dawsons out there waiting to bail us out of this one. Nope, we'll just have to wait for this situation to run its course which I predict will happen in the next 2-3 years.

Agree with everthing you said accept you left out in the Cons: part that he is the rockets most offensively challenged player. Love his rebounding and defense, but I would really like to see a long athletic weakside shotblocker alongside Yao in the starting lineup that has a descent to OK mid-range jumper.

The Rockets most offensively challenged player is Rafer, not Chuck.

If Morey can't even sign Hayes without hang ups, it's going to be an ugly reign.

He won't go nowhere. The Chinese shoe contract binds him here- or precisely, beside Yao.

I'm glad to keep him, I just hope the contract is reasonable and we're not paying him stupid money. 2 years guaranteed for 6 mil with a team option for the 3rd year... that's about it
