That is crazy money for a player who showed serious signs of decline last season. But I guess cleaning up on that last contract, where a player gets way overpaid for their last couple of seasons, is just the way it is. At least Stackhouse has built up a relationship with the Mavs and has earned the respect of the franchise, especially AJ. Still, for part of last season he was useless and Father Time is against him. He'll be 33 when the season starts.
I didnt notice that, I thought he had a great year, 12pts, 2 boards, 3 assists only playing 50% of the game and as the 2nd or 3rd option when on the court is pretty solid. Also, I think he is the only guy with any kind of clutchness or balls on that team and avery knows it.
That is a lot of $$$$. He is very productive, but getting older. As far as 6th men go Bonzi>>>>>>>Stackhouse, for a lot less $$$$.
didnt barnes do alot of trash talking and get in some scuffles with the mavs during that series, I can't see him playing for them
Are you serious??? Stack is one of the best 6th Men in the league. If Bonzi can give the Rockets even CLOSE to Stackhouse's productivity, they'd gladly take it.
I think that's a little off base. Did you see him in the playoffs against the Warriors? Granted they lost, but he looked like he was the only one who cared. He is one of the best 6th men in the league and his bulldog mentality is a plus on any team.
Actually relatively reasonable since they kept it to 3 years. He is a heck of lot better of a player than Kapono, who got that rate plus an extra year. But I don't see the Mavs as a big destination except for a veteran who doesn't mind staying on the bench for a shot at a ring. Posey, Brown or Joe Smith, maybe. But Wallace and Barnes or any major upstart player will want a role the Mavs can't offer, they don't have the money for Wallace anyway.
Yea the Mavs are handling Stack perfectly, each year his minutes dip a little but Stackhouse is responding, his PER is higher than its been in the past 4 years, also raised his shooting efficiency while increasing his scoring rate. Should be one of the best 6thman untill he retires or atleast until the last year of his contract
Say what? Stackhouse was horrible in the first 3 games against the Warriors and for the series he was pretty bad. Actually, I wasn't even thinking of the playoffs when I made the comment. He went through a stretch of games early to mid-season (I forget exactly when) that led me to believe the old hourglass was nearly out of sand. I'll admist he picked it up later in the season and did OK until the playoffs started. Stackhouse's tough-guy attitude on the court is something the Mavs need but the body has to be up to the task. I'm not saying he's ready to retire but he isn't worth $21MM to anyone in the NBA besides the Mavs. But the way salaries are going now, that contract is probably right on target. The amount just shocked me at first.
Pay attention, (assuming Bonzi has a solid season) that's the contract he will be looking for next year.
Stackhouse is a perfect compliment for Dallas coming off the bench. Frankly, he'd be a key player as 6th man for a lot of teams. He still has plenty of offensive punch left if he plays 20-30 minutes per game. He's actually not a terrible defender either.....not nearly as bad as he was earlier in his career, which is strange. I'm not saying he's a good defender...just not terrible.
