I was watching Fox 26, and Mark Berman reported that the Roxs contacted Malik Allen's agent. Allen said he would be thrilled to play with the Roxs.
It's an ok upgrade. Fits the PF slot and can be the inside scoring/rebounding presence if given the minutes.
Not bad... at times last season, the Bulls were looking better with him in there than with Ben Wallace. Good smart role player who can cover multiple positions and probably doesn't cost too much.
Not the answer at all. He doesn't rebound, no defense and he hasn't really played in 3 seasons. The last time he played was with miami and that was 2002-2003 where he played more than 15 minutes. The cheap way to fix it,more band aids, just plugged up the hole with this and that.
I like Malik. It's not a move for a starting 4, but certainly gives us a solid player off the bench to play the 4/5. Obviously the salary is a factor but it would be a good move. You can never have enough good players in the front court, expecially ones who are versatile by position.
Yeah, I saw the tail end of the report so I wasn't sure what they were talking about, but all I saw were Malik Allen highlights and Berman saying that Malik would be "thrilled" to play for the Rox, or something along those lines. For the right money, he's not a bad signing, but I fail to see how this is a 'significant' move other than adding capable 4's to the roster.
You act like they are signing him to be a starter or to be a huge contributor. He is a solid pro who can play both front court positions and gives us DEPTH.
You are better off just leaving it alone and give chuck hayes those minutes. If your not going to do anything that is going to upgrade or improve just give chuck hayes the playing time.
His minutes and stats have gone down the past three years...... not a good sign!..... literally and figurativly.........
Seems to be they are trying to add quality depth. Just because they are going after guys like Malik Allen or Allen Henderson doesn't mean they have given up on finding an upgrade at the 4. Who would you rather have, Tsakalidas or Malik Allen? At worse they are a wash but Allen, again, can play both the 4 and 5, is more mobile and has been known to be more of a 'give it his all' type of guy. Chuck & Deke get thier minutes along with this starter-worthy PF they hopefully will acquire and Allen is there in case of foul trouble and/or injury to play minutes. Good depth is always nice especially when your main backup at center (IF he re-signs) is running on his last legs.
Including Brooks and Landry, the Rockets already have 18 players on their current roster. I think these mediocre power forwards are being approached as a fallback if the Rockets are unable to make a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 trade for a starting (or otherwise higher quality) power forward. It's still possible that, for lineups' sake, the Rockets could start Hayes again next year and have a new, better offensive PF come off the bench. Sura and Spanoulis will be the centerpieces of any such trade, as their contracts will allow other teams to shed payroll and avoid paying the luxury tax.
He isn't mobile, he doesn't jump or contest shots, he doesn't rebound, he doesn't defend pick and roll which is the way everybody plays out west, baron davis, steve nash, devin harris, tony parker. He can hit open shots, but he isn't a guard. He doesn't fit at all with this new offense,You need ball movers at the 4 and 5 not spot up shooters. This would be a terrible move
Low shooting percentage..low points..low rebounds..low minutes..what was it this guy will help us with again?
