Wiz dealing Etan Thomas and Haywood?

According to league sources, the Wizards are considering possible trades involving centers Etan Thomas and Brendan Haywood. However, a source indicated that Thomas's contract contains a hefty trade kicker that would push his salary to about $7.3 million next season, and that has caused several teams to reconsider trade proposals for the veteran center.

I think either one can help in the PF/C position, what do you guys think?

It depends on what they'd be willing to take in return. I certainly don't think Battier is worth trading for either of these guys. But maybe a package of Head/JLIII/Sura/and V-Span or some combo of those might be worth it. But, I'd want to see what other options are out there first.

Hell no on Etan. Too much money for an under acheiving player. Maybe Haywood but that would not really shore up or PF worries. Haywood seems more of a C and not all that good at that. Maybe if we for some reason didnt have Mt. Motumbo coming back......

I think they are good options, BUT not for the price!

Both of those guys are centers. Neither can play minutes at PF next to Yao. The Rockets might be interested in one of them to be Yao's backup. But they can still bring Deke back for a fraction of the cost.

The Rockets ideally are looking for a 4/5. But that means they have to be mobile enough to play the 4.

Etan is intriguing. He's certainly mobile enough to play PF and he puts up huge rebounding and shot blocking numbers when he gets minutes. The only thing holding him back in that the Wizards have Jamison at PF so he has to compete with the bigger Haywood for minutes at center.

If they were willing to take on eith Spanoulis or Sura's contract with the addition of another player like Snyder or Lucas, then i'd do it.

    Sura+Lucas for Haywood = works

They would both be interesting guys to look at for very cheap. Etan Thomas and maybe Chris Webber could work at PF.

Both are back up centers. Neither are starting PF. If Mutombo comes back then both are useless, and if he doesnt, better alternatives can be found for much cheaper.

Etan may be listed as a C, but he would fit better as a PF. At that spot he could really muscle around the other PFs in the league, and get the rebounds. He is also reasonably athletic and can finish strong. This guy would be a good pick up considering we get rid of Spanoulis the Vagina, and Sura's contract. He has a hefty contract, but IMO he's worth the risk

Id take a chance on Etan if he made less money, but his salry is not worth it.

Melvin Ely of the Spurs seems to be a better fit at PF, and he would be fairly inexpensive at about $3M to $4M.

But he barely even played last year. he didnt even get minutes on the bobcats, I wouldnt expect him to contribute anything next year.

I don't like these guys taht much for the simple fact they still can't hit a 10 ft jumper if left open. I don't think they'll fit in our new system.

    I agree. I like him a lot.

And no matter who we get, we're gonna end up overpaying for somebody. That's just the way the cookie crumbles in this league nowadays.

Etan's a hardworking but limited F/C, doesn't have much of any quickness even for a big. Good strength, fair at getting buckets and boards in the post, but he has to get by on willpower.

Haywood's the opposite - fairly talented and has nice athleticism for his size, but he's something of a brat. Constantly causing issues over in DC because he doesn't bother on D and isn't all that interested in hearing anything the coach has to say.

Question is, could either play next to Yao, and I'd say no. You'd be putting two non-swift footed bigs on the floor in a league that's forcing all positions to be able to cover ground on defense. Avery's tried it a couple times in Dallas and it never worked.

Maybe if this were done with next season in mind (Yao shoulder surgery, Mutombo retirement), but I also wouldn't offer much up. Head and Sura is all I'd dangle.

ET works for me, however he is more of a JVG type player (good energy, poor offense). I believe Adelman is looking for some offensive production from the 4, to play the role of Webber/Brad Miller
