P.S. I honest think a post about Pavlovic could run this long is ridiculous. I agree with you. I really wanted Artest all along or Gerald Wallace but I felt that would really get everyone fired up.
Battier has... Better scoring by 1.1 ppg Better rebounding by 1.7 per game More assists by .5 per game More steals More blocks Better 3 pt. % And is capable of playing 35+ minutes per game. The only stat lines where Pavlovich has better numbers are FG% (by a couple of tenths of a %) and FT% (again by a couple of tenths of a %). Aside from his bigger name, Shane has a bigger body (by one inch and 10 pounds), MUCH better defense, an incredible work ethic, a fantastic attitude, and does the little things that championship teams need. Pavlovich has nothing on Battier. WHO'S YOUR DADDY?
We will agree to disagree. Raw numbers can be skewed. You've taken a quote out of context. You have to read that statement in it's proper context. Again I will say that Pavlovic is a better athlete and why couldn't he play 35 minutes? It's not like he's old. Btw, I like Battier
Shane's post move and his left/right jump hook is like money in the bank, it's so consistent and reliable that I just can't understand why he doesn't use it every time he is in that position. IMO, he limits himself in the "super role player" frame a bit too much.
i agree.. it might have been the system of JVG...but i really dont know but i really wish he would use that move alot more
the only way I give up Battier is if we get a LEGIT PF and not some scrub...othewise Battier is way too valuable..more than some people here realize..
He couldn't play 35 minutes because his coach thought that other people gave him a better chance to win. Raw numbers can be skewed and if it were one number, you would have a point. However, Battier is better than Pavlovich in every single category save FG% and FT%.
Production stats (per game) are generally skewed across the board if there is a huge difference in minutes at the same or similar position. I've not seen enough of Pavlovich to say whether he is better or worse than Battier, but I don't think looking at per game stats is very helpful for comparing players with such a huge mpg difference. From stats, Battier appears to be the more efficient scorer and has proven to be able to do it for 35 minutes a game. Pavlovich appears to be better at scoring a bunch in a hurry while still being an efficient scorer, but hasn't shown he can handle more minutes. Defensively, they both appear to be okay to good, but frankly I haven't seen enough to judge. Pavlovich appears to be turnover prone for someone who is not asked to create for others. Looking at his stats, turnovers is the only statistical reason for Pavlovich's limited playing time. He also plays on a team with better wings than the Rockets. I wouldn't trade Battier for Pavlovich unless there is something that doesn't show up in stats to justify the huge turnover difference. His stats suggest he wouldn't be a bad player to have, but wouldn't want to give up one of the Rockets few players for him while the Rockets need a PF.
Any player who has ever said "my offense IS my defense" is in no way better than Shane Battier. I wouldn't mind having Sasha as he is kind of like instant offense. But I would never consider him an upgrade over Shane. I'm not even sure that he's a "better athlete." Shane is a more complete player than Sasha will ever be. Not to mention that those stats come from a team in eastern conference...I don't think he'd get the same numbers here, but again even if he did, Shane is still better.
I would not trade him for Haslem. I thought Haslem looked really lousey versus Chi--not really a presence on either end and totally exploited athletically. Haslem is kinda adequate with a healthy Wade and Shaq, but a bottom 1/3rd of starting PFs. Now I would do James strait up or Alston (+Lucus, Snyder, Novak or VS) for him, but no to Battier. Well maybe I might think about if we had Barnes or Pietrus or DeShawn Stevenson secured via the MLE and Mia threw in a 1st rounder. The only player I don't view as expendable is Yao. If Kobe or KG is dangled, I would even consider Tmac. Battier is the 3rd key guy. Yes you don't trade him lightly, but you also look to make your team better. If trading him is absolutely critical to getting you Camby or Marion or Odom or maybe David Lee in two or three team deals--somewhat remote but not totally outlandish given teams cap manovers or rounding out their rosters--we should be open to it.
Battier hands down. Walton doesn't play defense. Good passer, and good shooter but I think Battier is a better player than we make him out to be at times. JVG's (and Fratello's for that matter) system basically forced him to stand in the corner and shoot 3s all day.
Battier by a mile. Walton isn't that good of a player, but the Triangle maximizes his strength and does a little to cover up his weeknesses. And even then, it took him a long time to catch on. Battier is better than Luke Walton at everything except ballhandling.
Here's a link from Tuesday discussing the Knicks wanting to add a SF. Wonder if there's anyway we could swing Battier/Head for Lee?
Personally, I'd love to see Battier in another uniform next season. He's the most overrated role player we've seen, However I dont think I'd trade him for Pavlovic though. I'm hoping somebody will over rate his "intangibles" the way CD, Morey, Van Gundy or whoever the hell made that decision did last year.
