I think especially tennis, but possible even golf and racing, have SOME fans all over.

However, NHL has a lot more fans in the areas where it is big...and then it still has some fans in a lot of other places. So I guess it depends on definition. But I think NHL fits in tier 3, if not 2.75.

I thought this was tongue-in-cheek banter (making the post you're replying to a little OTT). But if you're calling this "fact", then you truly do have Texas-colored glasses on, and the post calling this "ignorance" is accurate.

You listed your opinion, not "facts".

It amazes me the bloated egos online that will jettison rubbish from their keyboards and proudly proclaim it as "facts". You're entitled to your opinion, but that's all it is. An opinion. And a wrong opinion, by the way. :p

You might be right, but it'd be great IMO. I'd go.

just look at how many people watch the sport. It was on NBC and only 400,000 households watched it. Hey there are ****y NBA finals and ****y world series but it's never like that.

I don't like Nascar but it is relevant in this country. Just because something is big in New York and Boston does not mean it matters to most of the country.

What matters in the USA overall IMO which I belive to be fact

    1.NFL Football
    2.NCAA Football
3.MLB (three and four switch from time to time)
    4.NBA
5.Nascar (5-7 switch from time to tim)
    6.NCAA basketball
    7.PGA tour golf
    8.UFC-Boxing

9.everything under NHL, MLS, NCAA baseball, Indy racing

10.bottom of the barrell from WNBA, Arena football and everything else

    just my .02

    Precisely. Not fact.

Additionally, you're referencing NHL's troubles with viewership and following right now, just two years (ish) removed from a massive work stoppage. How many people thought MLB would never recover to its former following back in '95?

NHL will be back. As a matter of fact, right here in south texas a guy showed up at my job in a Ducks jersey during the Cup finals. And no, he's not from Boston or New York. (And, if you believe the love of hockey is limited to Boston and New York, it's possible you've never ventured north of Nacogdoches.)

Don't compare baseball to hockey...it's not even close. Baseball is America's pastime...hockey is a product of Canada and Europe. Hence, majority people don't care for it. Only people in America who follow hockey are the ones that have an NHL team and some transplant Canadians and Europeans. Wearing a Ducks jersey doesn't mean hockey is taking over Texas. It's like when Texanskan went to Europe last summer with a Texans polo on and cowboy hat. I'm sure Queen Elizabeth wasn't worried about cricket being taken over by Texans football.

    This is just nuts.

The fact is, I don't watch hockey. I don't know the first freaking thing about hockey. But I can tell you that in 2006, the Dallas Start AVERAGED 17,828 fans per home game. That is damn close to a sellout in the American Airlines Center. To see those stats in Texas and then say that nobody cares about it and that it is on par with arena football is just flat stupid.

    Attendance figures per ESPN

Wow I'm a huge Stars fan because Houston doesn't have a team. The good thing about this would be that Houston is getting one of the top teams in The NHL. I think Houston would support thir team as they do all sports. man we could win the Stanley Cup next year !! Get it done Houston so all my teams will right in beloved Houston...... :)

dude you have been clamoring for this for years. Did you post on the saveOurRockets forum too back in the day? I remember something about the Flames moving and Houston being a possibility. A major league hockey team would just be a distraction to the NBA and NFL seasons. I'd rather not lose attendance for those teams.

Agreed. There are 2 million people in Houston alone, and that's not counting Katy, Sugarland, Pasadena, etc. There are 3.8 million in Harris county, and Fort Bend county is only 20 minutes away. My family drives from *much* farther to take in games. Houston can easily support all of the big 4, IMO.

Maybe if "The Iceman" Chuck Liddell played hockey I'd watch.

    Maybe.

That's EXACTLY what he is saying. Apparently, you cannot be from Alaska and like soccer either. That is odd, because soccer is popular in Alaska. During the summer they have midnight soccer and midnight baseball leagues.

Such an odd perspective from somebody who OBVIOUSLY has never been there.

No thanks, I can get my hockey fix with the Aeros, and for cheaper.

The Aeros are fun, man, you would be surprised. Been a few times and it's always enjoyable, the fans are really into it.
