    :D

    I know...I know...but I still get a little weirded out throwing around the 'cuss-bombs' - don't know why - maybe I'm old fashioned.

Back in my day, the player's shorts were SO tight that the girls who did the laundry after the game were getting pregnant!

Get over it folks. Most 2nd rounders amount to nothing. He made his decision and lets respect it. We should look forward to the upcoming season instead of b*tching about VSpan. Best of luck to whatever VSpan wishes to do in his future.

Really? I'd rather earn it doing SOMETHING. I won't be childish and call him a cry baby as sooo many have already done on this thread. Guy makes his own decisions. Big deal.

You guys are way too uptight to have such strong opinions on some of the stuff around here.

    I know, I know...shut up.

Sometime things just don't work out as planned.

It seems the Rockets management will release him. This has happened before,
I can recall that Macijauskas asked to be released from his contract with the Hornets for similar reasons a year ago.

Hey guys you need to understand something.Vspan isn't worshipped in Greece. He is liked by a lot of fans but not worshipped. You see national fandom in Greece is only strong during tournaments. Papaloukas was being cursed by PAO fans during the Euroleauge Final and just like Spanoulis will be by fans of Olympiakos and other teams. Some ppl here seem to think that Vspan is super popular in Greece but he is not. Sure forgetting what a player did for you country just because he is playing for a rival club is not right. But if I admit I'd do it myself.

Now if he doesn't like playing in the NBA, well I can understand it. I personally love travelling and would love working in another country but its not for everyone. I think what the Rockets should have done is sign him for 1 year with an option of 2 extra years extension so this mess wouldn't happen. Now the Rockets should just release him and get Mutombo to stick an elbow in his cheek bone when they play with PAO. :D

    Chalk it up to immaturity.

Assuming there isn't some big rug being pulled here...

He got stars in his eyes after a good game against the US team. Then he unexpectedly got a chance because Mike James bolted right from the Rocket's very grasp. He comes over and finds out the game is different from the US bench vs. the Greek bench. He probably DOES get very homesick under his circumstances last season. Bitter taste and memories. But by the same token and immaturity, within 6 months he'll realize he's made yet ANOTHER mistake again by bailing out too soon, and he may not say it but he will haunted by the thought, "what if I had gone back... would I be on the rise now?"

... ah, the pains of growing up.

I would not release him from his contract, mainly because an NBA contract is guarenteed money. If he were to suddenly get hurt or turn into a total ass we would still be obligated to pay him (see Allan Houston, Sura, etc). That's one reason I like the NBA over football (as far as the business side is concerned)....once you sign that deal there is no getting out for owners or players. It's as fair as you can get.

I'm sorry that you are homesick dude. If it is truly that bad then cough up some serious dough to buy out your contract. Let's see how much you really want to go home....

What a wuss. I was an international student and I lived in a ****ty apartment for 4 years with no life and no car here. I toughenned it out, all my friends toughed it out, but a 24 years old multimillionare who get paid millions to play BASKETBALL all day couldn't? It is laughable.

He did offer to pay back the buy out the Rockets paid last year to Panathinaikos and I'm almost positive he will agree to a 0$ buyout...No reason why he would want to get paid for the next 2 years if he will be getting paid by another team and HE is the one that wants out......

His behavior makes last season's Bonzi look like a wise man.

I hope they don't cave in. If the Rockets release him they can't use his contract in a trade.

I will give V-Span one thing, he has generated more buzz than any other 2nd round, irrelevant in the histrory of the league. I think Billy should forever be known as the Paris Hilton of the NBA. Do they have the same publicist by chance?

So true. We ought to have a poll guessing how long this thread will be. The buzz was created by some of his hard core fans on the GARM that drew comparisons of him to Steve Nash and Tony Parker, guy that was expected to be that good is going to get a lot of attention. I never saw that potential myself but I guess will never know now.

i believe cd described him as a "cross between kobe bryant and tony parker." can't blame the fans too much for this one. ;) :)

I personally think its quite funny given that Yao Ming has had a much harder time adapting then he did. If his really not concerned about playing time and more about culture he really can't say he didn't have role models who can demonstrate to him how to adapt to culture.

    Old dude advice:

Life is short and a lot of it sucks. Try to be be as happy as you can.
If you know what makes you happy do it as much as you can, if you know what makes you unhappy do as little of it as you can get away with. Outside of your family, other peoples expectations don't mean sh*t. If your Mom is proud of you, your doing OK.

Money is nice because you can throw it at problems but material things do not yield real happiness. Real happiness comes from peace of mind.
