If he quits, I will wait to hear what he has to say, maybe he just wants to play in Greece, that is understandable, but it sure seems like he is being a whiny little wussy boy. So he didn't get along with JVG, lots of players can say that, big deal....JVG is gone, the Rockets have a Euro friendly coach who is going to play a style that is tailor made for V-Span's game. So what if he was lied to, be a man....show your stuff........if he quits and goes back home he will be labled a quitter.....and deservedly so...... Personally, I hope he is tougher than that. DD
Well if that's true so much for his many All Star appearances and his Hall of Fame career. Damn you JVG............ So do you think our 2nd round pick this year will be an All Star or will Novak I mean Novacaine (I liked Money better) have a break out season and steal the MVP?
From Chronicle article in other thread.... ------------------------------------------------------------------- The Rockets have 14 players under contract and expect to add Hayes, Mutombo and rookies Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry. The group includes guard Vassilis Spanoulis, whom the Rockets still want to have back, but he has refused to commit to returning from Greece for next season. "He right now is definitely enjoying Greece," Morey said. "He has never made a formal demand. The direction he's thinking is not toward the Rockets." Spanoulis, however, is one season into a three-year contract and cannot sign with another FIBA team unless the Rockets released him, something Morey said the Rockets do not plan to do. "He's a player we think can help us," Morey said. "We've invested millions of dollars in salary ($1.8 million) and scouting on him. We want him to be part of the team." ------------------------------------------------------------------- I personally hope the team plays hardball and forces the issue with Span....he signed the deal...make him play here or nowhere..... DD
i read an article about span on a Chinese website. span renewed his blog and talked about adelman and his contract with rox.
Something like this could happen 10, 20 or 30 years before, but not now. Nowadays if a player doesn't want to stay in a team he gets transfered or released and not kept by force. And besides, it would be very bad publicity for the Rockets. I don't think many European prospects would want to play for a team that holds players against their will... A lot of players know that not everyone succeeds in the NBA, so they want to be sure that they can return to Europe in case they can't adapt. Benching Span for 3 years out of spite and "just because we can" isn't going to solve the problem. Just accept that he was an experiment that didn't work out and let him go play basketball. The blog is still the old one, from May 30th.
If his contract can be bought out and cleared from the salary cap. Packaging him with Sura makes it a whole lot more interesting... Though GSW still have their 10M TE and Sonics could potentially get a large TE from Magic if they S&T for Rashard.
I don't know if this is just me or not... After we drafted Aaron Brooks, and with the Youtube I saw on Brooks, I don't really care if Vspan comes back or not. I mean, Vspan is a good player, but still, now I am just not that concern about Vspan...
I like this thinking. While both may be guarding players a tad bigger, they would have the quickness advantage. Interestingly enough, my reservations about Brooks is on O rather than D, which has nothing to do with ability but attitude. He has the same shoot first, second, third... mentality that everyone criticized Francis, Moochie and even Skip for_which was okay for the Ducks, but a potential career killer for a Rockets' PG. While Brooks resembles JL3 in stature and game (on the surface), he has the vision and ballhandling to be as good a playmaker as Alston, if he can curb his myopia on offense.
Are we loaded at the point position or are we loaded at the 2 position? I think we only have 2 point guards on the roster. Rafer Alston and Vassilis Spanoulis All others are 2's that can point for short spurts. Aaron Brooks - way undersized 2 John Lucas III - way undersized 2 Luther Head - undersized 2 Mike James - undersized 2 Bob Sura - 2 Kirk Snyder - 2 Bonzi Wells - 2 Tracy McGrady 2-3 I think we are modeling after the Timberwolves roster last year. Have a bunch of undersized 2's to play the 2 and platoon the point position.
Like I've stated before if he quits, I'd lose all respect I have for him. His name will probably be upgraded to VSpazz or something. Honestly, he's still only a potential and definitely not worth this whole attention and waiting. He should be waiting on the Rockets decision, not the reverse. I feel like he's the poor man's, less famous, version of Yi. He thinks he's the schitte and deserves a begging from an organization? No way! Thus far, he's a second round bust [yeah yeah blame JVG.. yadda yadda yadda]. He has no room to speak, he should be happy to come back and finally prove himself. Looking at the bright side tho, at least we didn't give up so much on him like we did with Scottie "broke ass" Quitten.
Nothing new...greek press reported on Morey's latest comments on how they are not planning to let him go at all and mentioned how it seems unlikely he will end up at panathinaikos after all... (this seems to be all made up stuff...neither the player or pao have given any indication of an agreement other than Pao's president saying he would like to have him back) Another article has a bit of an attack on Fran Blinebury regarding his latest blog... Basically it says the same thing I've felt like saying after reading the posts in this thread and Fran's blog.... Everyone keeps saying how Span is an arrogant whiner, quitter blah blah blah... THE GUY HAS NOT SAID A SINGLE WORD TO THE PRESS COMPLAINING ABOUT ANYTHING SINCE THE JVG incident... EVERYTHING else is speculation and journalism.... Span has basically only said he was concerned about how this year went for him (did not blame anyone or insinuate it wasn't his fault at all) and that he needs to think what the right choice for him will be (NO idea how that makes him arrogant or a whiner if he feels that the NBA or living in the US etc. doesn't suit him).... After that he has mentioned that things have moved on but he cannot reveal what will happen yet. Personally I don't believe the Rockets don't know what his plans are and anyone saying he hadn't told them is just being silly.... I dont know if he stays or goes...I'd like him to stay even though i'm a PAO fan and I wouldnt complain if he rejoined.... But the stuff I read about him and the way he is labelled by people is just ridiculous ..... The guy came back to greece to think, relax after a tough year and train to get better. Although he is under contract and he knows this, he is thinking it might have been a bad choice because aside from his game, he never really acclimated to the US lifestyle and he is just considering what is best for him... If he leaves, it will be asked as a FAVOUR to the rockets to release him.... I really cannot understand how people read more into it than this... And to comment on Fran's comparison with Yao and how Yao was practicing to improve right after the season ended and that Span is a whiner who expects everything to be handed to him, Span has been training every day since he got back at Neapoli sports center in Greece.... (and Fran, the European Championship is not an exhibition pre-olympic tournament no matter which way you spin it...It is a very important title and the NBA is not the center of the universe...)
I've noticed unfortunately....And it wasn't even much of an incident when it comes down to it.... Waaaaaay too blown up by the media
