ROFLMAO !!! I delivered the speech, and the CEO and Chairman and about 4 other directors were the ones that stole money. I was President of a division, not board level of Gizmondo...thank GOD ! DD
I recommend Inderal (propranolol) as well. It slows your heart beat down to where you feel like you are in slow motion. My dad wrote me a prescription for it in when I was in college. It has no side effects really other than calming you down, but don't mix it with alcohol. Its generally the medication of choice for stage actors and public speakers.
I would not use or recommend 20 mg as an initial dose. At most, I would use 10 mg providing that his BP and HR are normal.
Yea, 20 mg is way, way too much. Even 10 mg is pushing it. A good starter dosage is 5 mg and it will do the trick if it is your first time taking it.
People want meds to give speeches now, wow. Anything to take drugs! Just stand up there and do it, you're gonna be nervous regardless. Get it done, get it overwith... being nervous while giving a speech is a norm.
Not sure where you guys are getting 5 mg from. 10 mg is definitely on the "small" side...20 mg to start with Inderal is completely normal. Heck, children get more than that... For all the uses of Inderal, such as hypertension, angina pectoris, tremors, stenosis, myocardial infarction, etc...The average starting dosage is about 40 mg a couple of times or more per day. For high blood pressure, 40 mg is given twice a day as the starting dosage. For anxiety, you need over 80 mg a day. Using 20 mg as a startup for random occasions is completely under normal and acceptable limits.
True, being nervous is the norm...but imagine how it would feel to want to be up there and not want to get off... I had to give a speech on dry mouth and its effects on oral health...took some Inderal...they had to drag me from the podium. I was having fun, cracking jokes, speaking well...whereas if I didnt take Inderal, I would have completely choked under the pressure.
Easy for you to say, you don't have an anxiety disorder so you have no idea what people who have that go through. The nervousess you feel is different than the normal nervousness everyone else gets.
Admittedly my experience with inderal is limited to cirrhotics who typically have very low bp's to begin with. I have never initiated therapy with inderal for HTN, angina or anxiety (and I don't think I would) so your starting doses are probably reasonable.
I agree with the Big Ass Bear. Just suck it up and do it. No need for chemical enhancement. Don't be a wuss. If you have an anxiety disorder, you should be on something all the time anyway. No need for an extra boost to give a speech or some ****.
Yes, low bp would be an indication for lower dosages than I listed...in that case, you have to be much more careful when using beta blockers. But, in the case of "stage fright", bp's typically arent low...so inderal usage can be much more liberal.
