Can they match and do a sign and trade. If so, if I were them, I'd tell Memphis we plan on matching, but if Memphis is willing, they'd match and trade him there in return for Stromile Swift. As much heat as Stro gets, he gives almost exactly the same as Anderson, but only has 1 year left on his contract...
You laugh, but that might be an actual trade that could happen. Cleveland really wants to keep Varajeo but is reluctant to pay the luxury tax. Bob Sura's contract will allow a team to shed payroll. The Cavs also need a PG who can shoot a good 3-pt percentage. Rafer Alston (despite being abysmal inside the arc) is a good 3-pt shooter. Don't be surprised if this trade is being discussed between Daryl Morey and Danny Ferry this week. Just a guess.
Wolves like Danny Ferry don't "talk" to sheep -- they eat them for lunch. I hope Morey doesn't really believe any of the stuff he's been eating -- like "yeah, if our player isn't there, we'll trade the pick to you." We have no chance to trade for a decent PF. We can only hope we can pick up a stop-gap answer until next year. I just wish we weren't paying for Moneyball's inexperience. Moneyball is such a low standing as a general manager that Rashard Lewis wouldn't even pay him enough respect to visit before saying "no than-yew" to the Rocks.
Well maybe he's better than Hayes and he's better defender (but Chuck also can draws the charges) but Varejao ain't a scorer and a solid PF. We don't ned that guy I think
People that watched him hustle in the NBA Finals and assume he's the missing piece thing do, but I with you laugh at their misconceptions..he's worse than Hayes at offense. At least Chuck can make layups, and doesn't brick outside shots cause he knows he shouldn't take them.
Billups just signed large contract, can you say Amir Johnson? I think this guy has great talent and will flourish in Adelman's system.
A power forward that can do what Varejo does and make an open shot will get close to $10M+ a year, that's just how the market is. Any one better than Varejao, we wont be able to get.
Amir is un-proven in the NBA world. And plz link me to Billups signing a contract, thats news to me homie.
ESPN - Chauncey Billups' agent refuted media reports that his client had agreed to a five-year, $60 million contract. "This is a vicious rumor," Andy Miller, Billups' agent, told The Detroit Free Press. "It's entirely untrue. We have not reached an agreement. I don't know what stage we're at. We're having ongoing discussions, and I don't believe that we're on the verge of signing an agreement anytime today by any stretch of the imagination." The Associated Press and some Detroit-area media outlets had reported that Billups and the Pistons had agreed to a five-year contract.
His agent is just pissed that it got out early, they are prob working on minor things. Billups is signing, no doubt about it.
I don't know what's funnier, your subsequent Morey bashing or describing Ferry as a wolf. good stuff.
Absolutely r****ded post: 1. Danny Ferry has never been a wolf, as a player or as a GM. The same "wolf" is about to lose a contributor to free agency because he has overpaid players like Hughes, Jones, Snow, and Gooden on his roster. Smart, eh? 2. Inexperienced GM and "respect" has nothing to do with Rashard Lewis not visiting Houston before making a decision. If a veteran GM would have done better, then tell me what cities other than Orlando he visited? What veteran respected GM managed to get Rashard Lewis to consider them other than Orlando? Bottomline, the Rockets cannot not and probably don't want to pay him the kind of money Orlando offers, even in a S&T. BYC restrictions would have limited his starting salary significantly. Lewis got a great offer, and he did the logical thing: taking it before they regretted it.
thank you.. i dunno why everyone is so high on varajeao.. he's a BIG SCRUB. If he had a HAIRCUT nobody would even talk about him.. but since he looks like sideshow bob on the basketball court people seem to think he's good. He has very little offensive game and the only reason he was productive for the cavs was because he was the ONLY player on that team that hustled. I say we go after gooden.. he is a good scorer/rebounder and can play decent defense.. just needs to get his head straight.
Oh, man! The Cavs will either have to go into tax-land for the next couple of years or they will be a much worse team. The best players in their playoff rotation (after Bron) are free agents either this year or next: Varejao and Pavlovich this year, Booby Gibson next year. What do you do if you are the Cavs? If they match on Varejao, what about Pavlovich? He is sure to get a nice offer too. Then next year its Gibson... They pay huge money to Iglauskas, Hughes, Marshal, Eric Snow, and these players did not contribute much. As for Memphis, I am a bit surprised, too many forwards: PF: Gasol, Varejao, Stro Swift, Cardinal SF: Miller, Gay, Warrick I guess they are not going after a big name PG, so it will be Damon/Lowry/Conley. What about SGs, though? Is Gay going to be their 2?
